We were looking for a casual dining place in Bedford and came across Baja. It is a Californian/Mexican place just a short walk from the river and town centre. The menu is varied and has some unusual dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options. Unfortunately a couple of the dishes we chose were unavailable so we had to reorder, but the waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered starters and a main course each and the portions were huge. We were defeated in the end. Two courses for two people plus a bottle of wine came in under fifty five pounds. I would recommend this place.

Everything on the menu is the same but with a different tortilla. I found it bland. They also made a rubbish mojito. The ‘one near the bus station’ is def the best Mexican in bedford and St Cuthbert’s street has much better bars and restaurants than castle quay now.

Food was cold, dry and tasteless. When we complained nothing was really done. Offered us a drink - wouldn’t recommend.

Have always enjoyed going to this restaurant. It’s not your average burrito and fajita establishment. A wider menu focusing on their own take of Baja Californian food - from Roadside Chicken, Bavette Steak, excellent lamb chops and a very good gluten free Sloppy Jack & Jose Pizzas. What makes it better is the range of gluten free and vegan options. We went with our vegan friends who are very difficult to please - they loved the freedom to that came with a varied menu and gluten free Mexican portions especially, which in their opinion is very very difficult to find.
Completely different from other Mexican restaurants which come across as bog standard in comparison.
On the down side the restaurant can get very very busy and a little noisey especially on a Friday and Saturday night, especially with the cocktail bar next door. Regardless, this place is an asset to Bedford’s castle quarter! Would definitely recommend the Sloppy!

Great atmosphere, wonderful food and the best cocktails in town. We celebrated a friends birthday and totally love the new menu. Fantastic. There is a good option and something for everyone. The staff are really friendly especially the bar staff those Long Island Ice Teas are the best.
