“Great food - great vibe - mixed service”
Review of Zizzi Bedford

Zizzi Bedford
Ranked #35 of 462 Restaurants in Bedford
Price range: US$12 - US$26
Description: At Zizzi we like to do things a little differently. We don't do over-complicated recipes or scrimpy portion sizes. We're all about the well-chosen ingredients, simply put together to make exceptional Italian food. Overlooking the River Great Ouse our restaurant provides much needed rest and refreshment from a busy day hitting the shops or pre cinema to catch up with a friends.

Had a lovely dinner date here. The food was very nice and the vibe of the restaurant was buzzing.

We were served by a very helpful waitress (Karolina) who cheerfully replaced a drink when dropping food into it despite her clearly being very busy. Karolina was also helpful in advising with the food to the best of her knowledge and also helped us to customise our meal.

Only reason I dropped a star is that whoever reserved our table, well, didn't. And we were lucky to get a seat at it was packed inside.

We ate a late lunch on a grim Saturday; place was less than half full, and were looked after by charming people. What was missing was the jug of water placed on the table at arrival, but it came when we asked for it. Glad we had olive nibbles while waiting as our very simple order took more than 20 mins to arrive. Good points: chilled glasses for our beers (it does make a difference) and Parmesan was grated fresh from the lump, not that nasty, acidic, pre-grated stuff that comes in plastic bags.

BIG BLACK MARK - I asked what happened to gratuities and the staff-member told me that management takes half. NB, if you're reading this Signor Zizzi: I want to tip the kitchen and restaurant staff, NOT the managers and shareholders!

We went to Zizzi early on Maunday Thursday evening. We had both worked hard and wanted to relax over a good meal. Starters: My husband and I both ordered Butterfly prawns. It took quite a while to come, as they were a Chef short and the restaurant had filled during the last half hour. The staff gave excellent service, kept us informed and brought us drinks. It was worth waiting for the starters were delicious. Then we had Shanks of Lamb which just melted in your mouth. We had a great time, very relaxing. Even the toilets were kept clean despite high numbers. Will go again soon

First time in this restaurant, shopping in town and wet so thought we would treat ourselves to lunch.
Very welcoming staff and a good selection to choose from ,there is a special lunchtime menu with two courses £10.95 or three for £13.95 but we had items from main menu.
Husband had Toscana soup for starter and it looked very tasty and filling, spaghetti Bolognese for main and a selection of gelato for pudding. He enjoyed them all. My fishy skewer served with beans and little potatoes was enjoyable and gooey choc pud with vanilla was yummy.
Perhaps a little expensive for lunch but we could have gone for cheaper options.
Consuelo our waitress was efficient and friendly and also the manageress whose name I didn't get was also very pleasant.

Booked a table for 14 for a 30th meal. All food was pre ordered over a week prior however table was not ready on arrival. Manager was rude when we attempted to purchase drinks whilst waiting and told us we had to order at the table. We had a long wait on food (over half an hour) Starters were warm at best with 3 members being served food still frozen in the middle. Dipping breads were served with empty pots as apparently no dips had been requested - still find it amazing that empty pots were allowed to even be sent to the table. No offer of alternative starter for the ones still frozen. mains were then served before any new cutlery provided. Over priced for the poor experience, Waitress then dropped our money and spent a good 10 mins declaring that we had under paid. This was finally found by her feet. Very disappointed and a complaint has been made. Avoid at all costs. No apologies for any of this terrible service was provided at the restaurant.
