Owner description: High Woods Country Park is one of Colchester's beauty spots. The Country Park includes woodland, open spaces (ideal for picnics) a lake and wildflower meadows. Along with marshy areas, hayfields and scrubland, High Woods provides the right habitat for thousands of different birds and mammals. It's free for humans too. The Council's High Woods team looks after this gem throughout the year. Their welcoming approach to visitors and creative management of the park has lead to it holding the prestigious Green Flag Award since 2004. All in all, a place not to be missed by walkers, cyclists and families alike.

We love coming to Highwoods Country Park and such a huge space for families, walking solo with with your dog. Cycling too is really good too.

So many different ways to visit the park from many locations including the main visitors centre off Turner Road.

Has a place to purchase food and drinks plus a gift shop.

Parking is £1 for 2 hours and £2 for 4 hours.

We loved this park - we even walked there from Colchester. Wonderful place to walk - for both humans and dogs. There is a lake, walks through forest-like areas, and walks through open areas. There are three major paths clearly signposted and many other paths. Some areas are level, some are hilly. At one edge of the park you can get good views of Colchester off in the distance. Gorgeous scenery everywhere. There is a small visitor center with picnic tables near by so bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a walk or two. You can pick up a map of the area at the visitor's center.

Bearing in mind area, surprised at how pleasant this country park is. Okay, so you're never too far away from housing, but it doesn't spoil things too much. There is a choice of signed walks; you can take either the short or the longer ones. The lake is worth a visit, as you're never too far away from it. When we visited in early May there were lots of Bluebells in the woods.

There's a small shop and public toilets. I belive you pay for car parking, but it's not expensive.

Beautiful relaxing walks can be had here ! Plenty of parking and a visitors centre available with picnic tables. This will keep the children amused too with lovely safe play areas and spaces to build dens.A wildlife pond is accessible and various walks/trails to keep you busy for a couple of hours. There is also a huge lake where you can usually find fishermen eagerly awaiting "a bite"(permits are needed to fish I think) Overall a lovely place to stroll with family or friends or have a picnic.
