Firstly this place is *COLD*, so wrap up. Secondly the parts in between the actual activities are really dark. I would say its too dark; its not even always easy to read the exhibits in these areas.

The main thing which lets the place down, though, is the sheer number of activities which simply don't work. Some have signs on to say so, but most don't even have that. Fortunately our kids didn't really notice, but the oldest (10) was a bit disappointed sometimes. Any older and I think it would have been a serious issue.

To me the whole place kinda felt as if it had never been finished in the first place, and has since been left to wear out.

The building is fantastic. However everything else mirrors what has been said.
The “hands on” exhibits simply don’t work. There seemed to be only 6 staff in the whole place none of which wanted to work in the gift shop! The food in the cafe was average to poor. Most of the lifts failed to work. Finally the place is dark and noisy at times and my 5 year old daughter did get a little scared although after a while she got over it.

That said all of this could easily be resolved with some simple maintenance and a review of the layout and catering. I suspect 10 years ago this place would have been brilliant. Great potential just needs some investment and some intelligent management...

Maybe the outside play area will be good in the summer when it is open??

We visited here for the first time today. We paid £52 for 4 adults and a child and spent about 2 hours here. First part inside was very dark and noisy - actually very scary for young children. The main thing that let it down was the fact so many activities were broken or not working properly. Disappointing visit. Shame.

PROS: OK toilets on all floors. Lifts to all floors, however of the three main lifts only one was working, so if use of a lift is vital it might be worth phoning to check at least one is working before setting off.
CONS: Much of what has been said elsewhere on this site is true. The main criticism is that a lot of the exhibits aren't operational, and look like they haven't worked for a long time. The exhibits haven't been updated with modern technology, what was state of the art in 2001 is now very much old hat. It would be helpful if a hand held audio commentary was provided for the Big Melt hall.
