The Hydro is a gem. My grandparents used to visit the hotel in the 1970s and 1980s, and probably long before that. This was our second visit, this time with our adult children. They loved it, especially their first experience of fine dining in the Crystal Restaurant. They, like us, were struck by the the hotel's old fashioned charm and standards, and the wonderful atmosphere. Also, at the helpfulness and kindness of the staff.
This time we had lovely rooms with side sea views, one looking east towards the town, one looking towards Beachy Head. You pay a little more for them, but it is worth it. Our rooms and en suites were cleaned to the highest standards. The weather was very cold during our stay but our bedrooms were cosy and warm.
The hotel is to be congratulated on its delicious menus in the restaurant and conservatory. I am a coeliac and was able to choose from several items at every meal. Both venues are great places to eat: the Crystal Restaurant offers 3 course meals, with silver service; the conservatory is more relaxed and has fantastic views of the sea.
The hotel is set slightly away from the town centre, on higher ground, and you can take a walk to Beachy Head, about an hour away on foot, which we very much enjoyed. I took two early morning walks to see the sunrise over the sea which was well worth getting up early for.
There are plenty of quiet corners in the library or in the lounge where you can take a book and read. We brought our own game of Cluedo which we played in the lounge in the evenings.
Thank you, Hydro, for allowing to swap our original booking to a special rate that was emailed to us after we made it. We very much hope to return again and wish the hotel and its staff every success for 2025, you deserve it.

We stayed 3 nights over New Year and we could have stayed longer… it was our second stay at that special time of year. We loved every minute of it.
The reception staff made us feel at home. The entire hotel is maintained at a high level. It was so beautifuly decorated for the festivities!
We enjoyed being served at breakfast as we don’t like the buffet style found in so many places.
All meals were well prepared and well presented.
New Year’s eve was a success and we enjoyed meeting new people.
Good music, attentive and smiling staff…

Stayed for one night in rainy January. The service was excellent from the start, with Monika on the front desk particularly welcoming and helpful. Interior is a little old and tired on first glance but actually has a deep charm to it and puts you at ease. Room was a good size and had a lovely sea view. Excellent cooked breakfast included in the price. Very close to seafront, would recommend a stay if you are coming to Eastbourne.

We had the 4 night package in a sea view room and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The food was excellent with ample portions and plenty of choices with dining in the large Crystal restaurant. The hotel is well situated on the Western slope of the town with great sea views and plenty of parking all around which is still free, as well as the hotels own car parks. There was plenty to do with a quiz, raffle, live entertainment and even welly throwing for guests on the lawn. Best of all the staff were all so friendly and helpful which made it such a pleasure to stay.
