I used to buy my English books at a place on Mariahilfe but that is gone. Shakespeare and Co. is now the best choice if you don't want to go to the suburbs. It's in the old city and near some fascinating churches, such as St Ruprecht, so you can combine sightseeing and book-buying. The stock is good in mysteries and fiction. Not too bad in Austrian history. Staff is knowledgeable. It's a typical non-chain bookstore - ramshackle, a bit messy, for book-lovers.

It's an English language bookstore which is what I was looking for. It's real small. And it doesn't have used books or old books. And is mostly paperbacks. It's ok but not great.

Great little bookstore , don't expect the one in Paris this one is smaller. We loved this little bookshop and chatting with the lady who runs it. Lots to choose from and don't forget to get your purchases stamped.

Little hide-away gem of a bookshop (English) with several rooms filled with books to the ceiling. Wooden shelves and oriental rugs abound. You have to look for what you want, but browsing is part of the fun. Discover all kinds of new titles while you're looking for the one you want (if you really want to, you can ask for assistance) - you'll walk out with more than what you came for. The store offers an ambiance that cannot be found in modern gleaming book stores. The store is in the Aldstadt so walking there offers all kinds of interesting sights
