“Small place with a lot of books!”

I came here specifically expecting a big selection of books but I was a bit surprised with the small space despite a big amount of current and classic titles.

You will probably have no problems finding classic titles from all around the world but the selection is not so big when it comes to the current bestsellers which is probably for the best as it is full to the brim as it is. The newer titles are there but I suppose one might rather stumble upon something interesting than expect to find something specific and contemporary (biographies, A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones etc.) - try the English section of the Thalia bookstore in Mariahilferstraße.

It would use a bit of reorganization, maybe even a searchable database but that would probably make it less old-school. The books offered are new and their prices are average for Vienna, I would not expect to find something for a few Euros. If you are close by, pop in and support this business!

We did have to look specifically for this book shop or else we would have missed it as it's quite hidden, located in Sterngasse near Ruprechtskirche.

I was quite looking forward to check out this book shop as I had heard it offers Vienna's best collection of literary and hard-to-find titles in English. The shop looks very pretty and inviting on the outside. On the inside you will find a vast amount of books but there isn't much space. The place is messy, overcrammed with books and many of the shelves could use some re-organising. I did feel a little lost and overwhelmed at first. Most of the shelves are very high so you will have to climb a ladder to browse through them.

Overall a little disappointing and I did leave empty-handed. You should give this book shop a try if you have lots of time at hand and if you're looking for something specific, definitely ask for help. Otherwise you will either need a ridiculous amount of luck to find it rightaway or spend hours trying to navigate your way through the bookshelves.

I have a feeling places like this have a limited life left. Great English word book shop in quieter part of town. Pop in if you can and support book shops to keep open. We are here today thanks to the written word and long may it continue. Easy to find in the Jewish quarter, and check out the little church next to the shop.. It's stunning.

Don't be fooled. This is a small bookstore and smaller than any other Shakespeare in the world. And they are not associated with the famous Shakespeare in PARIS AND the world. ( they even mention that on their website..would that be allowed?)
Inside you will find only English books. Small bookstore

Out of the way from downtown but only see if you have time

A fantastic English-language bookstore in a quiet area of the Inner Stadt. It has a great inventory of all genres but I especially like the translation of Vienese/Austrian writers. Very nice and friendly English-speaking staff.
