The woman who took our order seemed to be trying to misunderstand us. My husband asked for pinot blanc, and she said pinot noir. He repeated pinot blanc, and she repeated pinto noir. Finally he pointed to it on the menu and she reluctantly mumbled pinto blanc. I ordered the salmon, and made sure she understood me by pointing to the menu and getting her to repeat it, but even so I got the perch instead. The food was just average. Our meal was made less pleasant by the fact that we had to keep waving away the flies that wanted to land on us and our food. Also, note that they do not take credit cards here.

Don't get confused, this is NOT a czech restaurant. It's kinda funny to see a statue of Franz Joseph (which no Czech person ever would place on his shelf) next to a poster of Budweiser brewery, while you're drinking a Kozel (because Kozel is owned by Pilsner, the biggest competitor of Budweiser). The other poster also made us think: there was a sentence in a language we assumed was meant to be czech, but the only word we recognized was "pivo", the rest was in some kind of hungarian gibberish.

Some of the meals on the menu are czech, yes, but the owner is not and he knows only single word in english, which is "pay". We had schnitzel, which was not served in czech, but in austrian style, but taste was good. Just nothing special.

The coffee was disgusting, the worst we ever had in a restaurant. Overall it's a mediocre austrian pub wanting to be something special. If you want to taste a little bit of Czechia in Vienna, go find some other place. This is not worth it and just behind the corner you can find a nicer place with cheaper czech beer.

We went in directly from the street, as the place looked cozy and we were very hungry. And it was a great surprise.
The first hint that the food was very good was that a lot of local people were having lunch there and they knew the chef and staff by name - always a great sign.
We chose Bohemian dishes and they were really, really good, accompanied by Kozel beer.
Lovely place!
Don't go if you expect fancy, as it's more of a local pub with great food and very friendly staff.
Very good, indeed!

The restaurant Das Powidl is simply marvelous, since you get true Czech cuisine right in the middle of Vienna. I highly recommend to order the famous Svíčková, a Bohemian Roast Sirloin Beef so popular in Czech Republic, for which you don't need to be in the Czech Rep. thanks to Vienna's Das Powidl. You get the Svíčková as it supposed to be.

The staff is friendly and the ambience is rustic-traditional and nice and here you can order many meals from the Czech Cuisine but again try the Svíčková.

As you see in the photo the Svíčková comes in a cream sauce and with extra whipped cream and cranberry marmalade. So the taste of this meat dish is sweet and creamy. Simply divine...
