After a HOT day and the horse ride around Schoenbrunn Palace, this was a such a fun area of the palace to see. So nice to walk inside and sit and have a drink. The owner (Christine, I believe) was so kind to invite us to look around and rest our weary travel legs. We enjoyed talking with her, even though we didn't see the marionette performance, we learned a great deal. We also referred to that knowledge in Salzburg later in the trip. Wonderful stopping point!

12 kid’s between 6 and 7 had a great Party. Games , showing of “making of “ a performance. Being able to see how a puppet is made and actually handling it. Great cake and drinks and then walking into the theater to watch a play (operetta in our case, Die Fledermaus, and no, Batman did not participated. The performance lasts for one hour , with an interval after 30 minutes..... the second part is a bit too long for 7 year old kids... especially as the are not so into operettas :-) . Nevertheless, the Ambiente is marvellous and if you visit Schönbrunn and have time left, go there.

How fine you took good impressions with you ... I can imagin that our childrens version of DIE FLEDERMAUS somtimes for children is not too easy to understand. I wounder if the children could understand german language, because especially the second part has some jokes inside "if you understand".... but fine you took good impressions with you

Located in part of the Schoenbrunn palace ( itself worth a visit ) .
Quite a small venue but the great puppets & puppetry more than made up for it.

Would recommend a visit with or without Kids!!!

We booked to see the magic flute, it's all in German so to make sure we understood and enjoyed it we watched a cartoon version in English on YouTube the night before. We loved it such and amazing experience that you don't get an opportunity to experience at home. We got there early and had a coffee and watched a short 20min video on how the marionette is made and how much training goes into learning how to manoeuvre them. After the show you're invited backstage to see how it works and the kids had a turn at walking a marionette . Don't miss it it's amazing

I saw the Magic Flute, presented by the Schoenbrunn marionette theatre - very well done and true to most of Mozart's opera. The puppets were so well constructed and so well handled that I was drawn in the story and the (recorded) music. I have seen The Magic Flute as live opera a number of times and I greatly enjoyed this puppet production. There were a couple of (5ish - 6ish) kids in the audience - one appeared enthralled and the other was removed by their adult person - why any parent would bring a kid to a 90 minute puppet opera is beyond me - there are shorter presentations available, specifically aimed at kids.
