Description: Café seit Mozarts Zeiten The first coffeehouse was opened at this location in 1794, three years after the death of W.A. Mozart. The Café Katzmayr located here was a popular meeting point for writers, artists, and actors during the Biedermeier period. In 1882 the old baroque house was torn down, and a Café was opened again in the present building which received the name Café Mozart in 1929. Here is where Graham Green worked on the screenplay of 'The third man' in 1947. A scene of this great classic film takes place in the street serving area of the Café Mozart. Enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional Viennese café without being bothered by smoke! For the Café Mozart is entirely a non-smoking café. If you wish to smoke you can do so on the terrace of our café or in the bar area of Crossfield’s Australian Pub next door.

We first visited Cafe Mozart and enjoyed our light lunch and even returned a few hours later to sample some of the amazing looking desserts.

We where not disapointed in the food or the desserts. The desserts were very good.

The service was typical of almost every Viennese cafe we frequented during our stay. They appear disinterested and very short of manners. But maybe I'd be like that with 5.5 billion tourists in my town everyday.

The real disappointment came when we visited another famous Coffee shop, Cafe Landtmann, to find that they are identical, much like a McDonalds chain. We later noticed two other cafes in Vienna that are also part of this outfit. So much for a quaint cafe...more like a mega chain.

Even on a cold March day sitting outside with coffee and strudel was a pleasure. More so as it's a easy meeting point for friends and a stopping off point if you want to see the Albertina, the Hofburg Palace or the Spanish Riding School.

My husband insisted we came here, and the decor is certainly impressive. However, I found the waiters disinterested, and the coffee and cake disappointing. Worst of all, it was expensive... my advice is, go elsewhere.

We ended up at Cafe Mozart after not being able to get a table in the place we were aiming for. It was such a lucky find. Wonderful breakfasts with great coffee and some of the best gluten free bread I've ever had. They also had some beautiful homemade jams. We arrived relatively early and were seated easily. I don't think there would be any trouble getting a table without booking on a weekday morning.
There was also a fabulous looking selection of gluten free cakes at the front.
