This hotel is south of the center of Liechtenstein, Vaduz, but don't let that bother you -- the hotel is about a block off the main road right on a bus stop, and buses run every fifteen minutes during the day; I though I would be isolated, but I was not. It was about a thirty-minute bus ride from the train station in Buchs, Switzerland.

Hotel Garni Saga makes you feel comfortable like you are at home. The rooms are very nice, and are tastefully dedicated. The owner and her staff take great interest in your comfort. I was very impressed how the mess I left behind in my room every morning was organized when I came back in the evening. Breakfast was also very good. And the bowl of apples out in the lobby -- delicious!

There is also a very friendly older dog named Karii that hangs around, and greets you.

Liechtenstein has an extensive network of trails, and you can get on them in less than five minutes from the hotel. Don't forget to get a trail map before you come, though. I had a lovely walk to the main town of Triesen (again, this hotel is more out in the country), accompanied by the tinkling of cowbells everywhere! You can also take buses going farther up into the mountains for even more hikes.

The one thing you have to plan ahead is dinner. There is a very nice, country-elegant restaurant, Zur Alten Eiche, a couple of blocks away, but it's a little pricy. There are a couple of other restaurants on the main road in Triesen, which is a couple of bus-stops north. The buses run well into the late evening. Liechtenstein is pretty quiet to begin with, and most places close early

Conveniently located in Triesen, the Hotel Garni Saega was a great base for day trips to Malbun, Vaduz, Pizol, & Bad Ragaz. Owner Maria & her staff are genuinely friendly without being obtrusive, & (perhaps because we were fortunate enough to be there when things weren't too busy) made us feel completely at home.

Our room was extremely clean & airy, the view from the balcony spectacular, & breakfasts were delicious. Maria's suggestions for local attractions were spot-on, & when we had a minor issue with our rental car, it turned out the mechanic sent by the rental company used to work with her husband, so we felt protected by a local support network despite being tourists.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the nearby restaurant Zur Alten Eiche is a 3-4 minute walk & has quite a good food & wine menu, including delicious flammkuchen as well as home-made ice creams/sorbets.

All in all, an excellent value & we hope to return some day!

We found this hotel via the Liechtenstein Tourist web site. A room for two with a balcony, breakfast and wifi was 148 CHF. The room was quiet and comfortable. Our breakfast was fresh and we were even offered scrambled eggs. The hotel is within walking distance of a fine restaurant for dinner.

Room Tip: View from the balcony is pleasant, overlooking the garden.
