La Pendarie is in an excellent location, very close to picturesque St Andre de Najac and Cordes sur Ciel, Albi, Villefranche etc. There are loads of excellent walks along the Aveyron and the Viaur rivers. The gite is charming and well- equipped. There's a a good-sized swimming pool which we had all to ourselves and a private shaded terrace with a fabulous view of the countryside. Ronald, the owner did everything he could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

The gite is at the end of a lane 150 yards from St. Andre de Najac, which is a little village on the southern end of the Massif Central, a quiet and scenic area. The village has a fine traditional restaurant, a small shop stocking most essentials, and a cracking pub - more of which later.

The gite itself is just to the side of the owner's large house, with it's own veranda. It has great views across the valleys, has everything you need, with a very comfortable bed.

You have the run of the garden with a lovely pool, sun loungers, hammock, ice machine - the only thing missing is waiter service.

Kookie the brown Labrador wanders around, and is very friendly (but don't feed her).
Ronald and Marjolein (the owners) are in the big house, you see them around, and a nicer couple you could not wish to meet. They can help you with restaurants and bars etc.

There is plenty to see and do if you want to get out and about, medieval towns and castles to see, lovely walks along the rivers, or mountain biking (many local VTT routes) and kayaking for the more active.

A stroll up the lane any Thursday to Sunday evening takes you to La Croix Grande, a pub popular with locals of every nationality run by an eccentric ex-pathologist from Liverpool. Here you will sometimes find live music, sometimes a BBQ, but most times have a fun and entertaining evening in the company of strangers who soon become friends.

Fabulous all round - I can't recommend highly enough.

“Fantastic house”
Reviewed 31 July 2011 for a stay in July 2011

This was a beautiful house, perfectly renovated and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday with superb gardens and pool. Ronald and Marjolein are wonderful hosts and good company but will stay out of your way if thats what you want. They have a lovely dog Cookie who actually seemed sad when we left. Although rural there is a great restaurant (so good we went three times in one week) lovely shop attached with everything you need and so much wine in stock! We also discovered the bar which is only open four nights on out last night which was probably just as well! The landlord was a character and so were a lot of the customers. Love to go back again.

“A gem of a place to chill out and forget all your stresses”
Reviewed 23 May 2011 for a stay in June 2010

La Pendarie surely was a gem of a place to chill out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
The Gite is very well equipped and importantly the bed is very comfortable with the added bonus of being able to shut out the light with the magnificent shutters. The kitchen is well equipped and the many dining areas make it excellent for eating in. We bought many treats (some of them local) and ate outside on the stone table watching the sunset (magnificent). The pool area and garden are also a treat. The surrounding area is hilly and makes running a little bit more interesting! A good route is easily sought out as a lot of the roads lead back to La Pendarie. The local pub is a delight with the owners being friendly and very welcoming. The local hotel too is friendly and good to eat in. The 10K walk by the river is amazing and a must. There are so many villages nearby to visit and chateaux and all of them so fantastic. And finally the owners at La Pendarie were fabulous and helpful with our queries on places to eat/visit etc. Their chocolate lab checked on us regularly and was nearly stolen by us! We hope to return one day.
