Great Location and great accommodation. Joanna the host was very helpful and would recommend this property and would book again.
First of all, to stay inside the walls of magical Mdina was a truly amazing experience. We debated for quite a while where to stay on the Malta Island, and I am so happy that we decided on this property in Mdina. Walking through the quiet streets with the incredibly high, honey colored walls-and imagining the history that happened there, was mesmerizing...it’s a truly unique place!
We were greeted by Joanna, who we all instantly loved and felt comfortable with. She was warm and welcoming.
The house itself was so charming. If you like staying in sterile, boring and impersonal hotel rooms, than this place is not for you. It is cozy, eclectic, comfortable and unique. Completely wonderful, in our opinion! The living areas had thoughtful supplies, and a plethora of reading material and Malta guide books to peruse through. The dining room and outdoor patio area was a great gathering place for our family and friends who traveled with us.
The second floor was my favorite...the tiled floors and glossy painted doors added so much charm!
The bedding on all the beds was SO comfortable. I slept better in this house than anywhere on our long trip through 3 countries.
The bathrooms were very clean and convenient.
The staircase was so beautiful!
We loved the rooftop balcony, where we watched the fireworks every night during our stay, as the feast of Joseph was happening! The 360 degree view is phenomenal.
Overall, this is a wonderful house. It makes you feel like you are living like a local in Mdina. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay.
Make sure to have some cherry almond cake at Fontanella’s during your stay!
Thank you, Joanna and Andrea!
New year, new determination to make up for past omissions, hence this shamefully late but wholehearted recommendation of Agatina's, after our lovely week last September. Three highlights:
First, the house itself: Taking its name from the lady who once owned the house, Agatina's is comfortable and cheerful, filled with pictures, books and colour - to us, a welcome contrast from the impersonal, all-white Scandi style of so many rental properties. It is also very well-equipped, with plenty of crockery, utensils, etc, and plenty of space for our group of four (good to have lots of bathrooms!). The choice of outside spaces is great too, giving choice of sun or shade, company or solitude...sitting on the roof terrace at night with the fairy lights twinkling is just magical!
Secondly, the location: Is perfect - hidden at the end of a quiet alley, the house is just minutes walk from the heart of Mdina, which is itself pretty much at the heart of Malta and quite, quite beautiful - honey-coloured lanes with bursts of bougainvillea; a good choice of cafés and restaurants; stunning views from the Bastion. For food shopping and a bit more bustle, Rabat is a short walk away, and the bus stops just outside Mdina's main gate link to almost everywhere else on the island, at modest cost.
And then, the owners: We are lucky to have met many kind hosts, and Joanna and her family are right up there with the best of them. Andrea could not be more helpful or friendly during booking and, true to his promise, Joanna and Joseph, his parents, greeted us and looked out for us throughout our stay with such warmth and kindness. They are special people who make Mdina even more memorable - and yes, we are planning to return this year, hopefully for two weeks this time.
This house is a real gem. We couldn't ask for a better place to stay in Malta and had wonderful hosts. We arrived late because our flight was delayed but Joanna was there to meet us and thoughtfully gave us a generous welcome pack. We spent our evenings watching the sun set on Mdina from the spacious roof terrace with magnificent views. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to experience the real Malta and felt very privileged to have stayed in the silent city.
We enjoyed staying in the spacious and tastefully decorated house in Mdina. It's located in a quiet part of Mdina and perfect for exploring the town. When we travel to Malta again we would love to stay there again. We particularly enjoyed the view from the roof terrace and the friendly hospitality of Joanna.
