Recently Italia has changed ownership, going towards a new menu and a refreshed culinary offer. We were tired and hungry and our hotellier recommended this restaurant. With no creativity we chose tried and true dishes with 2 bottles of beer.
The atmosphere was busy but not noisy;the service was pleasant and timely; the food was satisfying in taste and amount .overall a pleasant evening out

Having a taste for Italian one evening in Reykjavik, we tried Italia based upon our hotel’s recommendation and we were very pleased; a nice atmosphere, good service, extensive menu and the lasagna that both my son and I ordered was excellent with a generous portion size at pricing that is attractive by Iceland standards.

Visited here a couple of days ago and had a beautiful meal. I had the arrabiatta but am vegetarian so asked for no bacon and this was no problem at all. My partner had the ham and mushroom tortellini both our dishes came with a slice of cheesy garlic bread. Our son had a margherita pizza, we were pleased when they said that they did kids portions at half the price as Iceland is extremely expensive to eat out and our son is only 5 so wouldn’t have eaten a whole pizza! We also got lovely fresh water in a carafe for the table. Lovely meal with nice fresh food, one of the best Italians we have been to. Nice friendly staff as well. Would recommend and would definitely revisit again!

We went here for dinner one night and it was absolutely wonderful. I had the pasta with onions and sausage in a cream sauce and it was one of the best Italian meals I've ever had. The garlic cheese bread is really good too. It's pricey (as are most places in Reykjavik) but well worth it if you want a good hot meal on a cold night.

On our experience would strongly advise you to be careful of Restaurant Italia. The kitchen staff seem to have a real problem with customer-orientated service.

My wife is unfortunately is gluten free. When booking table we had double-checked and had assurance that “of course” we have Gluten Free Pasta. When ordering at the table apparently they had run out so she had to settle for yet another chicken salad.

Having finished the main course, our waiter seemed to have disappeared. We asked for a desert menu and placed an order for two Gelato. Our new waiter returned to tell us that, sorry but the kitchen was now closed.

We protested, “why give us desert menus!”. The waiter managed to persuade the reluctant kitchen to deliver, but unfortunately by this time we had had enough.

We explained that our lack of enthusiasm was influenced by our Gluten Free experience. He was amazed; he told us there was definitely GF pasta available. Obviously the kitchen staff could not be bothered to meet a customer’s critical requirement

It was especially disappointing as this four-day trip was VERY special for my wife and had taken a lot of organising. We feel that Restaurant Italia has been the only blot on a fantastic trip.

That said, the food was good but let down by customer orientated service.
