Description: In 1838 the land- and town sheriff Stefán Gunnlaugsson built the building. It has through the ages hosted famous Icelanders like Hannes Hafstein and Stefan Thorarensen. By 1970, the houses in Berntoftstorfu were capacity, the intention then being that they would be demolished and government offices built in their place. Before this came to be, a battle for the buildings preservation was held. It lasted for about a decade, but all the while the houses decayed and parts of them caught fire. In this house alone there were three different fire during the period of the preservation battle. After much struggle the Torfusamtok were finally victorious and got to rent the houses from the state with restoration and preservation as their main goal. The success of their work is apparent to visitors who come here.

This is a high-end restaurant, and I enjoyed my Langoustine soup and Icelandic Lobsters. It was more than I could eat, and I offered several to my husband. He liked it better than whatever he had ordered.
Our fine dining atmosphere was spoiled by a casually dressed guest at a table nearby whose bare feet we were forced to look at, because he would not keep his Crocs on. Perhaps the management should consider a dress/shoe code appropriate for this restaurant? "Jacket and Shoes Required!"

Prices are extremely high, even like for Reykjavik, but the lobster soup was delicious and wine - perfect. It's a romantic place but lunch time more for businessmans. Interior is extraordinary :)

Just treat yourself to the lobster feast! We had the soup and langoustines. Simply the best! And the atmosphere is wonderful with colorful paintings of various fish on the walls and ceiling. Wonderful staff.

We turned up at the Info office and asked for a restaurant where we could enjoy lobster - no problem we were told it is next door! The service was superb by a wonderful lady from Croatia followed by a really superb lunch with a couple of bottles of Sancerre - we were flying home the next day!! Then back to Canopy Hilton hotel for a siesta before an evening meal in the hotel. A Helluva holiday but worth every expensive penny!
