“Brilliant location, lovely apartment”

We loved our stay at Vesturgata, it was the perfect location for us: right by the harbour and main street, great restaurants, bars and shops in walking distance. The beautiful mountains visible from the little kitchen window. A very cosy flat with bedroom on the lower floor down the spiral staircase. Very good communication from the owners prior to and during our visit when we had question regarding a buzz noise in the flat (turned out someone had rung the doorbell and it had got stuck) so that was fixed straight away. We did tours during our stay - golden circle tour and we went whale watching. We used companies recommended by Rent in Reykjavik, and they were great. Would definitely visit again and would like to hire a car next time to explore the country more. Such an incredible place.

We really enjoyed our stay at Vesturgata. It felt very welcoming. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, and we slept great in the comfy beds. The location was perfect. If we visit Iceland again we would definitely stay here again.

“Terrific apartment, superb location”

My wife and I stayed at Vesturgata 14 in Reykjavik for five nights in late August 2013. We loved the apartment. It's clean and well-maintained, with pleasant, modern appointments and decor. Free Wi-Fi. The location is terrific, close to everything in the central city and a few steps from the old harbor with its multiple attractions. We walked everywhere or took the bus to slightly more distant locations like Kjarvalsstadir and Perlan, but a huge range of attractions is within simple walking distance. (The Reykjavik Welcome Card is a nice deal, and it can be had at the Tourist Information Center a few blocks down Vesturgata on Aðalstræti.) Another major plus: Vesturgata is a narrow, quiet street, day and night, even on weekends. The neighboring district to the west and south, Gamli Vesturbær, is also quiet and often lovely, a residential area great for aimless walks. The apartment came to our attention when we were having trouble finding hotel rooms. Our dates crossed Culture Night August 24, a vast, wonderful event (100,000 people this year in a multitude of sites), and the only rooms available were far beyond our budget. I discovered TripAdvisor´s apartment listings, which had Vesturgata 14. The brokers were Rent in Reykjavik, a booking agency. It was ISK 20,000 a night, just over USD 160—a good buy in an expensive city. The pictures on TripAdvisor and the RiR website made the apartment look excellent, and they proved realistic and reliable. The apartment is owned by A Part of Reykjavik, and the owner, Hugi, supplied thoughtful information before arrival and during our stay. The apartment has a kitchen/dining room/ living room on one floor (one large room), with bedroom, bath (shower and tub), and washer/dryer room down a narrow spiral staircase. We're not doddering but aren't young; the stairs were no problem. The large double bed was exceptionally comfortable, and there was ample closet and storage space. The kitchen is fully furnished. If you self-cater, a small shop is across the street, and 10/11 (expensive), Bonus (less expensive, bigger selection), and Kronan (ditto Bonus) markets are about ten minutes' walk west at the Grandagarður end of the old harbor near the Maritime Museum. Across the street is the friendly Reykjavik Downtown Hostel, whose staff gladly arranged Flybus Plus pickups for us on the day of departure—and the hostel has an informal cafe with fine coffee and sweets. A good trick is to take Flybus Plus from the Keflavik airport—they'll drop you and pick you up at the Downtown Hostel, maybe 10 meters from the apartment. Summing up, strongest recommendation—terrific apartment, superb location.
