On our recent Iceland trip, we got to taste some of the best food in the country. We started with our first meal at Food Cellar | Matarkajallarinn Grill & Cocktail Club - Situated in the basement of an 160 year old building in the center of Reykjavik, this restaurant serves typical Icelandic brasserie style of food. Each dish came elegantly styled and plated as a live music played in the background on a traditional mahogany grand piano from 18th century imported from Vienna.
There are a number of starters, house specials and restaurant classics; or main courses ranging from sea food and steak grills to choose from. As a family we tried set menus including a Discover Iceland Menu, Sea Food Menu and a Vegan Menu. Each dish had a good fusion of different flavors to create a gastronomic delight. Paired with a great Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon we went on to have a great dinner.
The Discover Iceland Menu included Slow Cooked Cod, Cured Goose, Fried Lamb and Banana Bread. The Vegan menu was served with Fried Asparagus, Quinoa Salad and a Vegetable feast of Sweet Potato, Avocado and Fennel and finally a Date Rawcake. The seafood menu had a perfect hot Fisherman's soup for a cold evening, a Fish combo and Strawberry & Basil Cheese Cake with Vanilla.
The service was impeccable giving enough space for our personal chat's at the same time being extremely prompt with different courses and wine refills.
The Food Cellar is an experience that puts Food in your Body and Music in your Soul. A must try on your Reykjavik trip. #iceland #iceland #icelandvacation #icelandfood #travelforfood #foodblogger #lovefood #icelandiccuisine #icelandiccuisineatitsfinest #icelandfoods #icelandfood #foodiniceland @matarkjallarinn #reykjavik #reykjavík #icelandtravel #iceland #iceland_tourist
