And the indoor swimmingpool is a treat. Villa Fridhem was once the summer residence of prince Carl, the royal family visited the place often. I can imagine that: stunning views over the archipelago, a charming 'home' and now an equally pleasant boutique hotel with good rooms, a restaurant and the aforementioned swimmingpool. The hotel is child friendly, the restaurant is reasonably good, the breakfast buffet catered mainly for children and the staff is excellent: very kind and helpful. We came back after our trip to Stockholm, and were sorry to leave.

Perched above the baltic bay of braviken, this is a former princely summerretreat. Now, as many of this kind of houses , it has been converted to conference center catering to the big employers.
However the serve lunch to the public as well, usually only 1 option of extremely wellcooked, wllpresented food.
Coffee is included and it's worth a stop !

Villa Fridhem is a relaxing little boutique hotel ideal for couples or families, especially while visiting Kolmarden park. The rooms are comfortable and the hotel is located close to Kolmarden village with some nice cafes and restaurants. A special mention about the friendly staff who try hard to meet the guests expectations.

We were opting for a nice, close to nature and peaceful place in the surrounding area of Norrkoping and happened to fall into this wonderful spot- because it is indeed a lovely spot from a location point of view, situated on a hill overlooking the ocean bay and surrounded by lovely woods and apparently full of history.
Upon arrival to the place we were surprised by the building areas on both sides of the main building (former summerhouse of a Swedish Prince and his family) since there was nothing mentioned on the hotel site.
We checked in and all good so far, even though the room smelled a bit of old used socks. We thought it was part of the charm and headed off to the spa area described as being a lovely and relaxing spa only to realize that time and refurbishment/maintenance work has been standing still for a while- several windows surrounding the pool were cracked and taped up, several dark brownish spots of various sizes could be seen on the tiled walls of the pool and its flooring. Metalwork indoor like staircase and fittings were rusty and woodwork needed a brush of paint.
So being the first signs of tear we noticed, we had our magnifying glasses on when roaming around the rest of the facilities, noticing the signs of missing maintenance a bit here and there- both indoors and outdoors.
We had in any case decided to try out the restaurant which has received lots of good reviews on this app/site and others, but were unfortunately disappointed on a few points where the place again fell short. The menu was pretty limited which is totally fine and understandable, but with that in mind, you then expect the kitchen to nail the few dishes they would serve up. But that was not the case- the Jerusalem artichoke soup they served up was cold (or luke warm at its best). Then came the locally sourced lamb (should have thought of the fact that there is no fresh lamb in Sweden mid April!) which was also only luke warm and tasted more of mature sheep than a succulent lamb, full of fat.
We ordered a child portion of the fish to our daughter and a full portion of the same dish for my wife and got a huge portion
for our daughter with our starter (which we double checked with the waiter) while to our surprise my wife got a smaller portion as her main. The only good thing about the restaurant was the atmosphere and views as well as the level of service of the waiters (which by the way only had 4-5 tables to cater for).
Interestingly enough, we didn't get an apology for the cold food or errors made from the staff, nor some kind of compensation.
The following day/evening, when we were trying to put our child to bed, our specifically required 'quiet' room was not so quiet anymore as the staff had been so kind to check in a family with their Beagle only a few doors away. And while the dog's family went off dining in the hotel's restaurant, the dog went off barking its head off... We could hold it out for an hour but then I had to go to the reception asking them to locate the dog's master to take care of it. And the only reaction I got was 'I will try to quietly let them know'- indicating no sympathy for our situation nor for the poor dog.

So, all in all, if the building work had not been there (taking away a bit of the charm of the wonderful garden/spot), the rooms and rest of facilities had been maintained or refurbished and the staff more attentive and respectful of the situations that we had it could have been worth every penny. But as of now, the feeling is that it is only a good spot for conference guests and not (yet) fully suited for people looking for serenity, peace of mind coupled with excellent service and quality.
