We had a wonderful visit at Solsidans. The house and grounds are beautiful, the beds and accommodation very comfortable, breakfast provided too. Karina helped us navigate the transport system, and we loved exploring Stockholm in the daytime while having someplace so quiet and relaxing to spend the night. It was the perfect blend of city and countryside! The sauna was also great.
We had a wonderful trip and Karina was a great host, helpful and kind and knowledgeable. The tram into Stockholm and back is regular and quick and the woods and water surrounding the house provide a place to relax on quieter days. We managed to go mushroom hunting, swim a few times (despite the cold October water) and do full days of shopping and Museums in town. Thanks so much!
We had perfect weather and I was in the sea every day, also enjoying the wood fired sauna. This is not your typical B&B - Karina was generous with giving us free access to her kitchen, garden and dock , proving a typical Swedish breakfast and cooking for us on request. She offered to drive us to and from Solsidans station although the countryside is very pretty and the walk only 15 minutes. We didn't use it but there is also a pool table and table tennisas well as a canoe and rowing boat.
This is not a formal B &B and is more like a family home - a very attractive one with friendly hosts.
Karina was very helpful and often drove us to and from the bus/train station from the house, though the 15 minute walk is a lovely one any way. We also enjoyed a complimentary, though pretty informal, breakfast in the mornings, usually involving toast and jam, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, meats and vegetables. If you're up early you can just poke around the kitchen (which can be used at any time) and cobble together breakfast yourself. The house itself is beautiful and homely, providing great views of the sea from every angle. You can relax on a private dock by the sea, swim and dive off of the diving board, and enjoy the woodfire sauna, which was fantastic. We kayaked and even took the wee rowboat out (note there is a beach if you head to the right and you can get ice cream there in the summer). We stayed for a week and used their shuttle service for an early morning flight back to the UK, which is much cheaper than the alternative of getting a taxi. We also picked blueberries in the nearby forest, though wear long trousers and top for this because the mosquitoes like to hang out there. In Stockholm, highly recommend visiting Skansen and the Vasa museum, as well as wandering around Gamla Stan (look for the sweetie shop there). This is a far better alternative to staying at a hotel in the city because it meant that we could have a great combo of city break and relaxing rural/seaside holiday.
