“Wonderfully original with a touch of luxury”

Massimo has cunningly restored this Gozitan farmhouse, retaining the original features and sympathetically adding to them - yet still fitting a hot tub inside and a large and deep (2.3m) pool outside. The pool also has shallow end for children and a ledge all round if you just want to cool off with a drink (though unheated, so a bit nippy out of season). Kids will love the (goat) kids next door, too. The internal courtyard is lush with planted pots and there's a great sense of space provided by the views across the valley from the hillside location (I say hill, there's a sheer drop from the lowest of the 3 terraces!). The kitchen is a little basic but completely in keeping with the property. Lounge is small but with any luck you won't be spending much time there - if you do there's password-free WiFi and more channels than you can ever watch. Massimo was there to meet us with some staple provisions, a contagious smile and a bottle of wine to toast our arrival! He even posted us the clothes we left in the wardrobe!
You can always find faults but this is a charming, large, clean and well-appointed property with an open and honest owner on hand if you need him and only 5 minutes by car from the sea and the most concentrated collection of restaurants on Gozo.

HIGHLY recommended 5 stars! Our second visit to the house, 2 adults, 8 days relaxing holiday mid january. Massimo the owner was as ever a great help, immediate response if we needed anything, great guy. Even though it is cooler in january it is definately worth a visit to Gozo.We came back to Denmark with a suntan. A newly installed fire was a warm welcome for the cooler evenings. Wonderful walking weather and very quiet. Jaccussi was wonderful especially after longer walks. Time to relax and go with the flow of the island. We certainly experienced more of the local life second time around. Next time will be without a car. Bread and grocery vans come by the street every day so there is no need to leave the house to shop. Dar is saqwi was like a little castle, very safe, privat and quiet, everything you need. Double 4 poster bedroom at the top very romantic! Tip: Book a direct taxi transfer, both ways, from Malta to the house, makes the holiday so much more relaxing.

“Steeped in history”
Reviewed 5 November 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Booked as half term break. The property itself is a surprise as it does not look so big from the outside. It is a beautiful farmhouse and one can imagine it running as a working farmhouse. At times we actually felt as though we were in a castle and occasionally lost the children in it! The pool was a delight and the children made good use of the inflatables available. As it was October, The Pool was a bit too cold for the grown ups. The same cant be said for the hot tub which was great tucked away in the former donkeys quarters! Nothing was too much trouble for Massimo. He was extremely attentive on the occasions we needed to speak with him.
On the downside we were pestered by flies and the local cats. Looking at the guest book it would appear that previous guests have unfortunately encouraged the cats by feeding them. However, in the grand scheme of things it was a minor irritation.
Also, a dishwasher would be an added bonus to an otherwise well equipt and tranquil rental.

“Lovely property, stunning internal courtyard”
Reviewed 9 October 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Stayed for a week in October.

Massimo could not have been more helpful from the outset.

The property itself is large (with lots of steps which might be tricky with young children), well proportioned and has stunning views.

The internal courtyard is lovely and a really a secret suntrap, however I could see moving between rooms in the cooler/wetter months a little bit less fun...

Only problem we had was a cockroach sighting and a little visitor in the kitchen, but both to be expected with an old farmhouse in a warm climate.

Liked best: Space all around the property and great BBQ area

“Versatile Accommodation in Idyllic Setting”

We stayed at Dar is-Saqwi for a fortnight in June 2012. Friends from the UK joined us for the first week.

From the outset Massimo (the owner) was communicative, helpful, polite and professional in all our dealings with him (predominantly via email) and he remained so once we arrived at the house in Munxar.

The property really is as good as it looks in the photographs. It was scrupulously clean, has many original features and has been thoughtfully converted into usable areas both inside and out. Of particular note are the pool (built into the rock face), the Jacuzzi and the versatile mix of guest rooms.

Its location affords superb valley views and convenient access to Victoria, Sannat and Xlendi bay. Though (assuming you’ve a car) nowhere in Gozo is very far away!

We've stayed at many properties on the island and will certainly be returning to this one...
