Owner description: This historic castle was constructed on three islands and is surrounded by lake and beautiful gardens. Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of National History since 1878. A tour through the museum's many beautiful rooms is an encounter with kings, queens, nobles, the bourgeois, events, and epochs, which have all shaped the country's history and development from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum was founded by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg.

Around 30 minutes from central train station in Copenhagen lies an amazing castle and stunning grounds in the town of Hillerød. From the train station walk around 10 minutes through the main high street you will reach the castle..

Like a fortress the castle is surrounded by a lake and then stunning gardens and woodland overlook the castle.

The garden itself is maintained to the highest quality with water fountains and Greek statues a plenty..

Perfect for a romantic walk or picnics.. popular for dog walkers and joggers.

I would highly recommend this place.. it’s full of culture, architecture, history and for garden lovers.

Thanks

Visited castle via an excursion. The castle is amazing. Upon arrival you are greeted by a spectacular castle surrounded by a moat. There is a magnificent fountain in the courtyard. The castle has wonderful paintings and highly ornate rooms. Unfortunately, did not have a chance to see the gardens which look beautiful. I don't think 2 hours is enough time to enjoy the castle because it is huge.

This is my favorite castle in Denmark. It was my 3rd trip to the castle but I haven't been in over 10 years so I went back. The architecture in this castle is amazing along with the paintings on the ceilings, the murals, the furniture. Plus it's in a beautiful part of town it's definitely worth the trip. Posted pics

I stayed overnight at Hillerod, so was able to spend a whole day at this beautiful castle. In the morning, I enjoyed walking in the Castle's beautiful woods and baroque gardens, before the rain came. In the afternoon, I visited the Castle, which contains the interesting National Historiske Museum. In particular, the Cathedral is stunning, as are the ceilings. I was fortunate to hear a lunchtime concert of beautiful music on a historic compenius organ.

The visit here was one of the trip's highlights. I was told that Kronborg Castle was more beautiful, but I couldn't disagree more. The landscaped grounds, even with signs of plant disease, was impressive with ponds, mazes, and topiary.
Then another treat awaited us as we slowly toured the many palatial rooms. The decorative arts showed off the splendor of the times. I noticed that even the antique clocks told the correct time.
Denmark's power and prestige during Christian IV's time, early 1600s, was well-represented by his palace, only surpassed by those in contemporary France and Russia.
