Description: After being frustrated with the poor beer selection served in the typical Danish smørrebrød restaurants and not having good suggestions of where to send people asking for traditional Danish food, we felt the time was right to open a beer geek’s dream of a restaurant. So when a space in the building next to the original bar was made available, the decision was made very quickly. This didn’t happen out of courtesy to our customers, but because we are curious, adventurous, and more importantly, because we love this type of food. It’s a natural progression on the palette for what people have come to associate Mikkeller for and we truly aimed to build a place where we would enjoy an everyday meal ourselves. We have great respect for the traditional Danish Smørrebrød, but we are also always looking ahead, trying to push boundaries. Needless to say, we have been extremely selective in all aspects of this project. We specifically handpicked everything from the beers selected, the chefs composing the menus, the staff serving and guiding, the interior, and the suppliers because of their quality and like-minded attention to detail. Obviously, we have a beer list, that in it’s own right is a worthy menu by itself, but we have also acquired the most extensive Akvavit list in Northern Europe (around 250 different) with the oldest bottle dating back to the 1950′s! At night we do pairings of both the beers and the akvavit alongside the menus.

Opted for the chefs selection of Danish sandwiches -asked for it without red meat and they were kind enough to tweak the order.

Service with a smile and prompt.

Local beer and a great recommendation on Akvavit.

Empty restaurant should have been a sign. The waitress didn’t tell us that some of the beers were not available until after we had made our choice. Beer came mine was short measured when I asked for a top up to the line she told me all the flavour was in the foam and topping it up would leave it flat! She topped it up and then proceeded to go on about it to the chef within hearing distance. Weights and measures is an international standard if she was educated to know. The portions were small and the food was barely warm served on cold plates. There seemed little point of complaining to this aggressive waitress and getting into an argument which is certain to have followed and spoilt the night. We left incredulous that this person should be in a hospitality role perhaps she thinks this behaviour is acceptable but the restaurant is not cheap and this should have never have happened. She also turned customers away at 8.30 saying the kitchen was closed if this performance is anything to go by the restaurant will soon be closed. Poor management and training.

My husband and I visited along with our son who works for the new Mikkeller General Store in the meat packing district, he recommended it. I had the cod which was perfectly cooked and followed with the marzipan cake which was scrummy. I had a glass of Riesling with my food which was delicious. We all enjoyed our meal immensely and would definitely recommend this restaurant for a evening meal of excellent quality in a nice ambiance. I thought the price reasonable for the quality of food we received and the overall dining experience.
