“Great stay in a quiet picturesque location with amazing views”
Reviewed 17 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Four of us (2 couples) spend a week in early June in the lovely villa. Some of us returned to Alonissos since the previous stay 2 years ago in the nearby Steni Vala.

The villa Oceanis is in the Vamvakies region of Alonisos, couple of miles north of Steni Vala and about a mile from the most beautiful beach – Agios Dimitrios . The villa sits on a hillside about 100m from sea front and the nearest beach. The hillside gives a wonderful view of the Sporades island with the Peristera island (uninhabited) being the most prominent. We were welcomed to the villa by the owners who picked us up at the Patitiri port. We were welcomed with a bottle of local wine and home-made strawberry jam that went down really well with breakfasts on the veranda.
The owners are very friendly and welcoming and were happy to collect us from the port and assist with luggage etc. Very obliging and accommodating if you have any additional needs, questions or issues (business cards were provided with contact details). Great care was taken to keep the home clean and tidy (and the home-grown fruit and vegetables watered)!

The villa has recently been refurbished but not used much. Still has that fresh new feel to it. No damages to furniture etc you see in other rented property. Externally the villa is surrounded by a lovely garden comprised of various trees (olive and fruit) and various flowers and shrubs. Behind the villa is a unique feature – a boat garden (literally an old boat is used to grow tomatos etc).

The veranda with the 6 seater dinning table is certainly a big attraction – in the morning we usually sat there to have breakfast while the sun was peering up behind the Peristera island. And in the evening the lovely sunsets and enjoyable cool evening breeze combined with the sunset over the Sporades islands was amazing. At any time of the day the veranda was pleasant to stay on.

Either side of the vernda are two sundeck loungers –great for catching the morning sun on the east side and the evening sin n the west side.
Also included (and of a great benefit on a hot holiday for a group of people ) is a washing machine behind the house .

The house is pretty isolated sitting some good 50 meters from the nearest house – also a holiday villa. You cant really see any neighbours because of all the trees planted across the hillside. During our visit there the neighbouring holiday villas were empty and we certainly had real quietness at any time of the day. Just the sounds of nature…

Internally the large living room offers spectacular views of the intricate roof arrangement . The living room is well furnished with two sofas and a four seater dining table and a coffee table. A usual set of (new) appliances (cooker / fridge / coffee maker) complete. Enough appliances to make lunch / dinner if desired.
A digital TV, a CD and a DVD players are also available in the living room. At the time of our visit most DVD titles were in Greek however.
With the pretty good weather all through the typical summer season there isn’t real any time to be sitting indoors watching DVDs. During our stay we had 1 day of wet weather and still found plenty to do elsewhere such that TV was only on twice during our stay for some background noise.
Be aware tho that at the time of our visit the stereo system did not have ability to plug your own MP3 / ipod players to play your music.

Beyond the living room are two bedrooms either side of the bathroom. Again bedrooms offer the same views of the roof beams. The master bedroom (on the west side) features a double bed and its own mini veranda. The second bedroom features two single beds (that can be moved together to make a double). Both bedrooms have air conditioning units (operated independently).

At the time of our visit the second bedroom had no ceiling to leave the full view of the roof beams which made it somewhat exposed to the noise and light coming across the top of the wall between the living room and bedroom. This was raised with the owners and assurances given that a ceiling will be fitted this winter. This wont be an issue for a single couple or for families with young children, but can be an issue for more than one couple desiring privacy. The master bedroom is fully enclosed off from the rest of the house however and there is no issue re noise / light / privacy there.

As said above the house has the full cooking provisions. But given the cheap and abundant and great tasting food a short drive away (Tassia’s cooking restaurant in Steni Vala is brilliant) there is really little need / chance to do own cooking. There is an outdoor barbeque provided also should nonetheless should one desire so.

So in summary we had a great week long stay at Villa Oceanis and really enjoyed the Alonissos’ sights and sound and tasted some amazing food.
Will we return ? – Certainly to the island (already planning for next June) and probably to the villa Oceanis again as we did love it, as long as the rates remain competitive (for a couple).

“Beautiful, relaxing, quiet - the view from the veranda is amazing”

I've just returned from 2 weeks staying at this Villa with my partner, her son and daughter in law. The villa is lovely, there is everthing you need including a washing machine in an outside building and a very nice BBQ. The veranda is a focal point of the villa, we had breakfast, lunch and dinner on it and spent our evenings playing games or chatting as the sun went down and the stars came out - beautiful. There are very few houses close so there was next to no noise intrusion from other people. There is a small road at the front of the property running along by the sea but this road isn't used much and again there is no noise intrusion. Its hard to see on the map but the sea is literally at the end of the drive and across the very narrow quiet road. The view from the veranda across the sea to the uninhabited island of Peristera is stunning - I can recommened an early morning cup of tea just sitting in silence staring it's a whole other world.
The owners are lovely, they clean the villa every 3 days which is plenty and are on hand to help if there are any problems not insignificantly it is also great value for money.

Alonissos is a lovely island. We were there at the start of the season so it was very quiet but as it's a 2 hour ferry journey from Skiathos I get the feeling it doesn't get too busy anyway. I can recommeneded it if you like hiking, its very green with lots of trees for shade. The beaches are beautiful and in the main very clean and very quiet. When we went snorkelling we were often the only people on the beach. We also went sea kayaking which we would recomend.

Agios Dimitiros beach is lovely and you can walk to it from the villa. There are a few tavernas there. Steni Valla is very pretty and has the nearest supermaket. You will need a car to get to it, in fact you will need a car on this holiday, we used crossroads rental who were very good. Steni Vala also has some nice resturants and is a great place for a coffee or beer and cake after a long walk.

The main town/port of Patitiri is ok. At the moment they are building a new port so there seemed to be a never ending line of large lorries in and out. Fine to visit to stock up on stuff from the supermarkets or bakeries and ok for a coffee on the sea front but I wouldn't particulalry want to stay in the centre however that is just my impression from a few visits over the two weeks we were there.

Other things i would recommend - the gorge walk which you can do from the villa, the summit walk and then down to Gerakas for a snorkel and the two churches walk. The Old Town is also nice for a visit - it's small so you couldn't spend all day there.

All in all I would recommend Alonissos as a lovely greek island to visit and if you are going there I recommend using Villa Oceanis.
