This is not the most impressive set of "ruins" that you will ever see but put together with its lovely location then it is special and very much worth a visit. It is located just a stones away from the popular tourist beach but when you are actually there you will not know it.

The sit is like a wonderful walk through history (or what is left of it). There are a few caves but you can't see much of them, only a little from outside as seen in these photos. The basilica is wonderful, but you have to see the quarries! They are not easily to find (you have to go further even though it might seem there is nothing else to see - just follow the map found at the entrance).

The walk round the peninsular is very pleasant and well worth taking time to explore all there is to see from the ancient buildings to the remains of the old marble quarries, the coastal views and the distant sight of Mt Athos on the horizon. Plenty of choice for eating and drinking once you return back to the beach before the small climb back to the main road.

You have to walk past a an overcrowded beach, with several dirty bars playing loud music, but it's worth it. Some minutes down the path, the noise evaporates and the atmosphere becomes tranquil and very much enjoyable. We had a wonderful picturesque stroll, taking in the views of both wonderful nature and ancient remnants.

There were signs telling you the way around the place, and signs giving some information about the attractions.
