Twice a year I take my mum, now 83 on holiday and for this years Autumn break I choose Thanasis’s apartment. Booking was fast and communications were quick and easy. Thanasis arranged a taxi for us from the airport and we were delivered to the apartment. Thanasis could not be there so we were met by the lovely Eleni who showed us around the apartment and explained how the hot water worked.
We were very pleased with the apartment, the location was wonderful. If you leave the apartment and turn left, walk for 50 metres or so and then turn right for 40 metres you are on the promenade. Twice a day we went for a stroll along the waterfront. The sea is incredible. The apartment has two terraces, one at the front with a table and chairs and a more shady one at the back. The front terrace was bathed in sunlight all through the day. There is a very good supermarket at the end of the street.
Mum had the main bedroom and I slept on the camp bed in the living room. This is was fine as we did not watch the TV. The kitchen was well stocked and previous guests had left provisions in the cupboards. We did not do any cooking at all but there seemed to be enough pots and pans should you want to do so. We just made tea and coffee. We made good use of a list that Thanasis had emailed to us of recommended local restaurants.
The best one we visited was called Nea Folia, unfortunately quite a long walk from the apartment but the food was wonderful. Both waitresses we met made a big effort to help us. We went three times, and the food was excellent each time. Another restaurant we went to a few times was at the end of the street called Mikraki, a home cooked, buffet style restaurant with a very helpful waitress and lovely food. You just point at what you want and it is delivered to you. I had a fabulous Mousaka among other things. The other places we went to were Katsamaka and Full tou Meze for grilled meats. One Sunday morning I had a fantastic croissant with scrambled egg, bacon and cheese at a trendy cafe called Estrella.
All in all the apartment & Thessaloniki were wonderful and an extra big thank you to Eleni. I would happily return.
