Go very early to avoid crowds and heat. Difficult underfoot in many areas as stone can be uneven and slippery. Fantastic view of Athens at top.

I saw this iconic area when I was in college a long time ago and had to bring my son to walk in the footsteps of the ancient Greeks. There is almost always a line for tickets but moves pretty quick. We waited about 40 minutes. Tickets are 20 Euros for just the Acropolis or multi tickets are 30 for multiple sites around Athens. We were lucky the it was not too hot. 80 degrees. Bring water and an umbrella for the sun and wear a hat, You can refill your water at the top for the trip back down and there is a bathroom at the top as well. Great views of Athens, the mountains and the sea on all sides. Be careful on the exposed marble on the trail as they are slippery. Well worth the price of admission. The memories with your family will last a lifetime. Must see.

Ancient Greece has provided so much for contemorary America and the rest of the free world. It was developed in a set of buildings that have a history architecturally in themselves. They are all centered on the Acropolis. Don't leave Athens without taking an escorted tour.

Everyone who visits Athens must experience the Acropolis. Unfortunately, countless tour buses in a steady stream begin arriving around 9 AM and continue throughout the morning. We planned to go later in the day but ended up being there around 2 pm while it was still very crowded and hot. It is incredible to see the Parthenon and other Greek temples but not an especially pleasant experience because of the uneven stone steps and height you must climb. Also the footing is slippery because of sand on the stones and wind blows the dust around. You will want to be sure to bring some water with you.
