The fried sardines dish (€3.50) is a must-try! So crispy that the whole fish can be eaten!!
Tried the grilled squid (€8) and seabass (€6.50), both were delicious.
Sangria was the best I've even tasted, served with cinnamon stick (€3.50 for half litre). Also ordered a glass of "green wine" which went well with the fried sardines.
Opens at 1130 for food and tends to get crowded by 12 noon.
Left the place with a happy tummy!

We went to Mercado do Bolhao which was the oldest market in Lisbon, we bought two 200 ml Port wine (20 yrs) of 12 Euro ea. Then we felt hungry and saw a lot of people lining up for their lunch. We saw the food pretty good and asked one of the customer who said the food was delicious and told us the fired sardines of 5 only cost 3 Euro. It was an excellent choice of such delicious quid fishes and sardine.

Everytime I come back to my country to visit family and friends, this is my first stop.
The memories of a traditional portuguese meal, good company and the friendly noise of one of the oldest markets in Portugal "BOLHAO"

It could be defined as a "premium quality street food" as you are really in the middle of the market of Bolhão in the very old part of Porto city, sitting on a bench with a wooden table, taking a rest for a lunch.
Near to the tipical "promenade" streets of the oldest part of the city center.
Nice to imagine how the market operators and buyers were going in the past to have a drink or a snack here in the middle of a tiring workday.
We had a starter of fried sardines and a special local sausage (alheira) that is instant fried served with very good French fries.
The atmosphere is awesome and bring you out for a while from the noise of the city, in an environment old old centuries.
This is an experience that combines the eyes, the nose, the taste, the ears and the hands; hands, yes, because many of the dishes are better if took with the fingers, not the fork.
Try and enjoy!
