We enjoyed our two nights at the centrally-located Teatro. We had a junior suite which was comfortable and well-appointed. The brown walls made for a warm and intimate space for a couple of nights although we were quite glad to move on to a hotel with windows as it started to feel a bit oppressive and dark by the end of the second day. The little sofa area was useful, and the Mr and Mrs Smith port and chocolates were a nice touch. Lovely open-plan bathtub and spacious shower area. In short, it's fun to stay if you're looking for something out of the ordinary, but I wouldn't stay here for a week, the room was just too dark. However, it lost an extra star because of their demand for a credit card. We use debit cards rather than credit cards and without the latter, we not only had to pay for both nights in advance, but we were unable to order films in the room etc. A bit disappointing really, I'd expect to be able (at the very least) to pay for each service as we used it with a debit card. Would have had four stars if it weren't for this.

The reception and bar staff were amazing. Very helpful and full of smiles.
Location was very good, bang in the middle of Porto.
Breakfast was OK, good but not outstanding. No fried eggs, sausages or croissants, but they had freshly squeezed orange juice and champagne, so we could have a mimosa every morning.
The design of the room was just not for me, very dark, annoying glass door in the bathroom, no tiles in the bathroom. Interesting concept but I did not find it luxurious at all. It felt a bit like a glorified Premier Inn. The rain shower though was one of the best I have ever experienced.
Would. I recommend it? Yes. Would I go back? Not sure...

I have not actually stayed at the Teatro Hotel, but I still found their customer service to be wonderful. My friend and I had just arrived in Porto, and were eager to have dinner at Restaurant Palco after reading such positive reviews; however, we completely forgot that it was a Sunday evening, and, as such, many restaurants around the city would be closed. Palco was completely booked for the evening, but the host and the front desk staff were incredibly accommodating to us. They made us a dinner reservation for the next evening, and also set us up for dinner that night at a nearby restaurant, Book, which was also excellent. They really went above and beyond for us (tourists who were not even staying in their hotel), and we both appreciated it very much.

Lovely hotel with interesting design - it used to be the backstage area of a theatre, and they've kept this as a theme. We had a junior suite, but decided to upgrade to one of the main suites, which had a separate seating area and a terrace with sunloungers and chairs. The room was great, apart from the fact that the aircon didn't work. We asked management to fix it, they sent someone to look at it but it still didn't work. We kept asking them to fix it, but by the end of our 3 night stay it still wasn't working. We stayed in March when the weather was fairly cool, yet we were still way too hot in our room. I can't imagine how unbearable this would have been in the middle of summer.

An excellent hotel. You have to get used to the special 'theatre atmosphere', with a lot of curtains and dimmed light. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet is elaborate, and a special attention for good fruit. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated on a walking distance from all the interesting places and the Duoro.
