We really enjoyed our stay at Guest House Douro. Good location. Comfortable room. Great service. Breakfast was so beautifully served, the fruit plate looked like a work of art. Everything was very fresh. The owners helped with restaurant recommendations, as well as train ticket reservations.
From the point where our host Hugo picked us up at the airport until he dropped us off at the train station 5 days later, our stay at GHD exceeded our expectations. The property itself is intimate and immaculate. Hugo and Luisa went to great pains to make sure we had everything we needed. We wish them every success in their new venture. The location of GHD is convenient to just about everything right on the Ribeira - lots of great restaurants steps away and fantastic people watching. Once you were in your hotel room though, everything was calm and peaceful. Highly recommended!
I stayed here June 12-14th. The location is great for exploring Porto. But, what really makes this are the hosts, Hugo & Luisa. They were very friendly and helpful with dinner researvation and sightseeing suggestions. Hugo offered a complimentary glass of port each evening. The breakfast plates of fruit are like displays of art each morning. Highly recommended.
We stayed here for 4 days recently and found that the new owners are continuing the excellent service that the pervious owners gave. Hugo and Luisa are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is not only visually appealing but very good also. The rooms are small but traveling in Europe in the old sections of cities is expected. I have to say though that the room was Immaculate; I would say the cleanest room I have ever stayed it. The location is excellent also.
Right on the Douro River, looking across to the port lodges, Guest House Douro was an ideal location for our visit to Porto. Owners Hugo and Luisa made us feel very welcome and were so helpful with directions, sightseeing ideas and reservations. Breakfast was a treat, with fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, pastries, meat and cheese, juice and coffees. Our room was small but delightful and clean. We highly recommend staying here. We'll be back!
My wife and I and our two adult children stayed at Guest House Douro for two nights in late May. All of the glowing reviews are spot on. Hugo and Luisa, the proprietors, made us feel most welcome as soon as we arrived. They assisted us in restaurant recommendations, airport transfers, etc.
Breakfast was included, and was delicious: fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, breads, coffee, and juice.
Each night, after a long day, we were offered a night cap, such as a glass of Port wine.
The hotel is spotless and well-maintained.
We will be back to Porto and will only think of staying here.
