This is the place to stay if you are looking for a delightful experience capturing the essence of Porto. The location on the waterfront is lovely and in the heart of the Ribeira facing the port wine tasting houses. The rooms are compact and very well appointed with everything you need. From the minute you enter the doors of the guest house,you are welcomed by the wonderful young couple (Hugo and Luisa) who are carrying on the great legacy of perfect service that the prior owners provided. The fruit tower and Portuguese morning cakes at breakfast were excellent along with some meats & cheeses. Perfect to start off a day of sightseeing. They were most helpful in mapping out our day based on preferences we had and made the best dinner recommendations and reservations. At night time the offered a taste of port to top of the day. They also assisted with train reservations for the next leg of our journey. They are the perfect host & hostess and we wish them much success in their new endeavor. Guest house Douro is a must stay in Porto for the real flavor of the area.Can't wait for our trip back.

New owners Luisa and Hugo provide surprisingly extraordinary customer service. All the positive reviews are very accurate and we totally agree.

The location and views are the best, the rooms are amazingly clean and perfectly furnished. Thoughtful touches, such as fresh roses on the bathroom counter and fresh fruit for breakfast cut and arranged with artistry, are everywhere. We appreciated all their truly personal service and help with recommendations and reservations.

Look no further! Guest House Douro is the perfect place to stay for a visit in Porto. The location is well situated directly on the waterfront with many nearby dining options and within easy walking distance of all city sites. Louisa and Hugo went above-and-beyond to make our stay memorable and pleasurable. The day began with Louisa's artistic arrangement of fruits and Hugo's made-to-order coffees. From there we received personalized tips on sites to visit and which port tasting/tour to book. Dinner suggestions were personally curated. The evenings ended with glasses of port (or tea) brought to our room after we shared the day's adventures with Hugo who was already thinking of where to send us the next day.
Our room (the one with the large windows looking onto the river) was small but we were forewarned so no complaints. We were offered additional storage space in the corridor but did not really need it. The bathroom was also small, but I am sure was the cleanest bathroom of any place I have ever stayed!
I do not often give a five-star rating but would happily give six stars to Guest House Douro!
