Our stay at the Melia was pleasant and exactly as expected. The rooms are tight as is to be expected throughout Europe; a quad/family room is simply a double occupancy room with 2 cots added - this made for a slightly claustrophobic 10 day stay. The rooms are strangely laid out with an open concept bathroom which left very little privacy for a family with teenagers. The only place to change clothes in privacy is in the toilet stall (which is frosted glass). The shower stall is also frosted glass - very awkward as one must walk by the shower when coming into the room. The bathroom is also very dimly lit which did become frustrating after a few days. The rooms are well air conditioned and also have windows that open if you prefer nighttime air. Rooms offer good quality shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion through dispensers in the shower and sink area.

The hotel has great spa services which are reasonably priced with same day available appointments. The gym is a nice size with treadmills, weight machines and plenty of free weights. The cost is a little steep at 9 EUR/day - this does include fitness classes and the use of the indoor pool, though.

The outdoor pool area is fantastic - plenty of seating in both sun and shade and a convenient poolside bar. There is also a water bottle refill station located just inside the pool area by the spa.

The lobby is fresh, clean and has plenty of space to gather before/after dinner with cocktails, beer, wine from the lobby bar.

Another great feature of the Melia Braga is the breakfast and dinner buffet. Breakfast offered an abundance of bread, cheese, meat, cereal, yogurt, nuts, fruit, oatmeal, pastries, jams, jellies, fresh squeezed orange juice and smoothies (both green and detox!) as well as champagne. Also offered are hot menu items such as scrambled eggs, bacon, baked beans among other items. There is a pod dispenser espresso machine which is far preferable to the brewed coffee.

The main feature of the dinner buffet changes daily, but the appetizers, salads and antipastos are plenty and delicious. I could have had only these and I would have been satisfied. There are tables available outside on the balcony overlooking the pool and greens.

Although the front desk staff were always friendly and attentive, I was surprised at how little they knew about the area in which they work; many times we were left to do our own research on public transit and local hotspots. There is a business centre, but there are no printers - the front desk can print an email, but cannot print a document (such as a transportation voucher). There are times when a screenshot sent in an email will not suffice...

The hotel is a quick taxi/uber ride to the city centre for dinner, shopping or to reach the train station. Check out my other reviews for recommended dining, shopping and amenities around the hotel and in Braga city centre.

There are some good dining choices within walking distance of the hotel on R.Nova de Santa Cruz. There are a few groceries in the same area and a "surplus" store that carries just about anything you forgot at home. Also see my review on Braga Parque, a shopping centre which is a 20 min walk from the hotel.

Room tip: Rooms by the elevator are quite noisy due to bell and voice system notifications floor by floor

Nice hotel but outside the centre of Braga. Very modern and up to date. With spa containing gym and both indoor and outdoor pools. Plenty of space for laying in the sun near the outdoor pool. Food , particularly breakfast was of good quality. The staff were very helpful and could not do enough for you. Rooms were modern and clean. The only real downside was the hotel was a thirty five minutes walk to the centre of Braga and on a very busy road but you could not hear the road from your room.

It is definitely the best hotel in Braga. Large, luxurious, with beautiful and comfortable rooms, very good breakfast, courteous and helpful staff. Very beautiful outdoor pool (although shallow), which also has a pool bar. The wi-fi and parking are free of charge. The prices are very reasonable. The only disadvantage is that it is far from the city center and therefore needs a car, while the options in restaurants or bars in the area are limited.

Easy parking outside. Hotel advertised as having air conditioning but they would not switch it on so we just got circulated room temperature air. Had to keep the window open overnight to try and keep cool. 80’s rock is not restful music to unwind to of an evening in the bar, nor at breakfast, but that is what we got. Bizarre room design. It was open plan with flashy silver curtains which opened to reveal a large free-standing bath. I’ve never seen a brothel but this is what I imagine one might look like. Should you wish to have a bath, the shampoo and bath gel were in a dispenser stuck on the far wall so I don’t know how you would manage. Shower floor was very slippery but at least there was a grab rail. Hair dryer sits high on the wall with a short cable. How many of us prefer to stand up at home or in the hairdressers to get our hair done? Hinges on wardrobes and cupboards were not soft-close so doors clanged shut. The bed was large and comfortable. Only one chair which was far too low to work comfortably at the desk. There were stains on the ceiling, silver curtains, chair and lamp shade. Remote control needed new batteries. Breakfast had poor quality cheese, ham and coffee. They had wine in a cooler with lots of ice, yet bottles of water were at room temperature. Orange juice was watered down. Eggs in warming trays did not look appetising and were not often replenished. We did appreciate specially warmed up gluten-free bread and pastries. I’ve stayed in lots of Melia’s and this is definitely the worst. One of the most expensive hotels of my trip and poor value for money.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Melia Braga Hotel for making our stay such a great one. Cannot fault this hotel at all. Location wise about 10/15 mins to Braga town centre. There is a wonderful shopping centre ( Braga Parque) literally 5 min drive from the hotel with free parking. We had half board - breakfast and supper every day and there was a great choice with wonderful service. Rooms were good size, beds comfy although bathroom is a bit strange with a shared door for shower and toilet. However, room facilities were good with a great selection of TV channels and movies (pre-pay) in different languages. My kids are both teenagers and really enjoyed their stay here. We came to visit my Portuguese family so didn't have time to use the spa and gym although outdoor pool was open and looked amazing. Staff were all so friendly and their English is impeccable. They made our stay a very comfortable one and nothing was a problem. We are already looking forward to returning and hopefully will have more time to enjoy all that Braga and surrounding areas have to offer. Definitely recommend staying here.

Room tip: We asked for standard rooms on 9th floor and it was quiet.
