It was a misty damp afternoon when we entered the Monte Palace tropical gardens but we are so glad we did. The pathways are laid out so that one can always miss a slow moving group, the frequent tiled walls give a lively and colourful sketch of Portugese history while the oriental garden, making use of flowing water, fish ponds and aquatic windows are excellent. Currently there is an exhibition of Zimbabwean stone sculptures. Please do not be put off by the title. It is simply outstanding in its presentation and content.
There are quiet seats aplenty and nearby cafes provide snacks and drinks for those who want them.
These gardens really are a place to escape into and relax, be entertained and pleased that you went.
