How often do you get to stay in a 16th century windmill. Not actually in Sintra, but in the national park, about 15 minute drive to Sintra. Windmill was renovated, but some time ago and could use a little modernizing, but cozy and comfortable. Top floor room is the nicer of the two - romantically cozy. Bathroom is on the main floor - two flights of narrow, steep stairs, makes carrying luggage up and down a little difficult. Has a small kitchen, main floor dining room, and living room and a partial loft lounge. Couple we were with adored it.
The location, and accomodations were outstanding. The hospitality of the owner was great. There was so much charm and so many nooks and crannies to put items that you never had the usual clutter of other places lacking space. Very well decorated interior. Cozy fireplace. Absolutely my favorite place to stay. It was a getaway in the middle of my vacation between Porto and Lisbon. I can't say enough how much I loved this place. One thing to note, if you are tall or large you will need to stoop in the kitchen area and entry. I had no trouble since I am a total shrimp!
special; not very 'light'... like a cave ... accommodation OK but humidity
tiny;(very) low ceilings !
kitchen & bathroom (very) rural / countryside
BUT overall good & nice for couple of days
surroundings wonderful; very well located !
This is a wonderful quirky place for children, practical for adults and a wonderful location for either beaches or Sintra. You can combine the two - Praia das Macos nearby has a lovely old tram which will take you to Sintra.
