This place is almost always crowded with busloads of tourists, but still worth it. It is a fairy-tale/Disney-esque castle perched on the top of a hill in a picturesque Portugese city. The interiors are very nearly as amazing as the exteriors with incredibly ornate design, decoration, and finish. Definitely go to Sintra - if you are allergic to crowds, try and go early in day and/or in the off season.

Much more interesting inside than outside.
The kitchens with their huge chimneys were fabulous - possibly the most impressive we have ever seen anywhere in the world.

We were staying literally across the road so we walked - having watched coach loads of tourists being bused in from 0900

The guided tours were a real pain as the corridors are very narrow so it’s difficult to navigate past - maybe later in the day it gets easier - we went at 1100

There was a lot if renovation going on during our visit which took away from the splendour and history of the palace

If I had to choose Pena is much more spectacular and easier to get around

We bought a ticket in the tourist office about 200m away for here and Monserrete which worked out cheaper

Situated in the centre of the town, and easily located by spotting the two white conical towers, the palace is definitely worth a visit. We had a good value ticket which gave us access to most of the main attractions around Sintra. The palace has some beautifully decorated rooms, and information is provided in both Portuguese and English.

Sintra is full of palaces. This one is in the village and worth the visit. It is 10 min picturesque walk from the train station. Enjoy the stoll and take photos along the way. The best photos of the palace are on the way there across from it. The walk there will take you through the village square across from this location. Great place for lunch, diner or a drink.
