If you see the line outside this place, you can see how they can get away with making the tarts fresh constantly. Crispy on the outside and still slightly warm in the inside. Pretty good!

Loved this quaint little bit of sweet history located next to the Jeronimos monastery. Yes, long lines but worth the wait.

Stopped by the famous Belem Pastry shop in Belem, just west of Lisbon. Local tour guide expertly directed us past the very long lines for pastry to go into the dining area. After a short wait, we were sitting down to enjoy the famous Belem custard pastry with a cup of cappuccino. Having never heard about the pastry, I had no expectations before I bit into the melt in your mouth custard with flakey pastry. It was neither too sweet or filling, with the unfortunate effect that you wanted to eat another as soon as you ate the first. It is well worth the journey to Belem, especially if you take the time to enjoy the pastry in the dining room. It is hard to believe they make 20,000 a day but after having eaten one, I expect none are left at the end of the day
