“Noisy and warm in May”
Reviewed 11 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We stayed in this apartment for a few nights in May 2017. I am surprised the other reviews did not mention the noise! Perhaps the two frat houses and loud restaurant directly across the street are new? The double windows reduce the noise considerably but we still needed to use earplugs. The live band quit at around 2 a.m. but the disco music continued as did many loud people outside (smoking and partying) until 5:30 a.m. With the windows closed, the bedrooms were stuffy and warm for sleeping. Otherwise, the suite is very well located, with a great inexpensive cafe across the street, the university directly up stairs, and an easy walk to the main restaurant and shopping district via the other path mentioned in a previous review. The apartment was clean but rustic. Pots and pans were well used and old. No toaster or coffee pot, unless you count a 1930s style percolator! But good coffee across the street was €0.40 so no need! The apartment had good light and lots of hot water. It was very clean but old and worn looking. Booking and arrival/departure was simple and the desk person at the hotel check-in office very helpful. Definitely a budget accommodation, but extremely noisy at night when we were there and no air conditioning.

“Apartment was cold / drafty”

We did not expect to find so many old kitchen appliances in the apartment. The apartment felt very cold. Though the water was warm when you kept it running for a while, the bathroom felt cold and awkward. The bedrooms were very small and did not have much space between the beds and the walls.

close to university, and nice cafe across the road for breakfast. The apartment was ideal for 4 people and convenient for the University buildings and sites within the city

“An excellent apartment”

We had excellent, immediate communication from the start with the owners who answered all our questions and gave us full instructions for our arrival. All that was shown in the photos was correct and even better, more spacious and very quiet. It is extremely well located, near the university but within walking distance to the centre of town with public transportation outside the door. As there is always someone in the hotel (same owners) just some 50 m away, any questions and/or problems are easily resolved, such as receiving and then delivering to us a missing suitcase at 9:30 pm. It is very comfortable and highly recommended for a short or long-term stay.

“EXCELLENT LOCATION”
Reviewed 27 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Large, comfortable apartment, well-appointed. We only stayed two nights but my wife and I agreed we could have easily stayed there for a week. Reception arrangements were easy because the family owns the hotel a couple of doors down the street, the Pensao Residencial Antunes, which is staffed around the clock, and they have a parking lot in a vacant property just across the street from the hotel if you are travelling by car.

The apartment is perfectly situated for touring Coimbra, for example once you ascend the Escadas Monumentais about 100 metres from the apartment it is only about 5 minutes to the Museu Nacional de Machado de Castro, and then only about 5 minutes further (downhill) to the Old Cathedral. One tip we got from our waiter at a very good restaurant (see my review of A Cozinha da Maria) was to return to the apartment the long way, but the easier climb, using Avenida Sa da Bandeira.

Incidentally, excellent (Portuguese) TV with some English-language stations and first-class wifi connection. And an elevator!

Thanks to Beto and his family for an enjoyable stay in a lovely city.
