I really enjoyed my stay at the Melia Ria Aveiro. This is a lovely hotel and amounts to good value for money: as another recent reviewer puts it, “a gem in a cube” indeed! I had a superior corner room which was spacious, well-appointed, quiet, and comfortable. Superbly (and noticeably) clean throughout. The location is convenient with most places in Aveiro reachable on foot. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and dinner each day in the restaurant - great choice of food and drink, all of high quality, which can be enjoyed while overlooking one of Aveiro’s canals. There is also a spa and an indoor swimming pool. I wish I could give five stars instead of four, but unfortunately a couple of minor things let the hotel down. Why do hotel guests need to pay to use the swimming pool, and also pay for a swimming hat? I’ve never come across this in any other hotel I’ve stayed in. Why are there no sun-loungers for use outside? Surely most guests come to a hotel like this to relax for some of the time in the sun. I also thought the elevators were very small and very slow - surely these need upgrading? Overall, I had a great stay, and would have no hesitation booking again if I’m ever back in Aveiro!
