The positives: absolutely beautiful old building, very charming, fantastic courtyard for breakfast (which was very good), old walled gardens to explore, and certainly the funkiest tennis court I've ever played on. Quiet, peaceful, lovely antique furnishing, really unique place.

Negatives: beds uncomfortably hard, wifi only in the common areas, old key system while charming is a pain very quickly.

Would recommend hiring a car - bit too far to walk to Angra. 1.5 km walk to Sao Mateus for lunch at Beira Mar is very worthwhile.

The quinta is a wonderful building next to the sea. A great infinty pool cools you down on hot days. The living rooms are tastefully decorated and home to the wifi lovers. Great breakfast inside or in the garden. Maria is a great host.
When you drive from Angra the entrance is a bit hard to notice. So watch out for the sign on your right hand.

All around wonderful property. It is family run so there are some quirks.
The grounds and setting are spectacular. Although it is right off of the road the compound is beautifully landscaped and connected to the water. It has old-world charm and as do the owners Patricia and Maria who were very hospitable.
The place is well decorated and appointed, with the exception of the fake flowers everywhere. They have vast grounds with real flowers and plants--dont know why they need to have fake plants everywhere.
We were a family of 4 and were given the option to stay in the separate Patio house that one can rent. The house was by the pool down two very steep flight of stone stairs and a little inconvenient to get to the main house. Compared to the main house and grounds, it was more like the servants quarters--somewhat dark and musty and right off the road so it was noisy. There were many moths in the bathroom. The house is very spartan compared with the main house. And it has no Wifi, which is fine actually.
We also had the dinner of the house that they offer which was 30 euros. For the convenience and elegant service it was lovely but not worth the price. The food was well-prepared but pretty basic and you can get much better food for 12 euros at the Pousada in Angra.

Overall enjoyable and unique place to stay.

Just like other travelers we had some difficulties finding the Quinta with Google Maps and once on the right road along the ocean, it was only in the last meters that we saw the sign of this beautiful Quinta. It is not situated in Angra do Heroismo itself, but closer to Sao Mateus.
Don't expect a traditional hotel building, but an authentic 18th century farming complex. Situated on vast grounds, the garden has several sunny or shady sitting corners. Right before the main building is a large terrace overlooking the ocean.
The owner himself did receive us. he is a rather distant though friendly man of few words. So don't expect much information or explanations.
You will be guided to one of the classical rooms. They don't have views towards the sea, but to the garden or inner patios of the quinta. The decoration of the rooms is very stilish. They don't have airco, but are rather cool in itself and have an antique ceiling fan. Beds are high and spacious with very comfortable mattresses and two kinds of pillows. The bathroom is very small (one person at a time) with an excellent shower but no separate WC.
There are several sitting areas in the quinta that all account for the rich past of this mansion, with beautiful furniture, antique decoration, art books,... What a pleasure to sit here in the evening and have a complimentary coffee or tea or a whisky or Port from the hospitality bar (at very reasonable prices). But if you prefer a cold beer or soda, just ask for it.
Breakfast is served on one of the inner patios or in a beautiful room. The buffet is rather small but well cured (and all egg preparations are cooked upon simple demand).
An absolute highlight is certainly the infinity pool overlooking the ocean with its very comfortable lounge chairs.
This quinta was an absolute highlight during our island hopping and a place we would definitely recommend to anyone in search of peace and luxury in a beautiful environment.
And for dinner: go to Beira Mar in the small port of Sao Mateus!

This is a beautiful Quinta located by the ocean. It is a renovated old monastery with bags of character. If you would like to stay where the current Spanish King and Queen stayed then this is it!
There is a great pool, big grounds, lovely chapel, beautiful lounge ares with antique furniture.
Our hosts were very helpful but I wish our Portuguese had been better.
The rooms do not have sea views but were well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.
Drinking our purchased wine and eating local cheese on the patio overlooking the sea was special
The location is outside Angra and close to Sao Mateus which is a fishing village with an excellent seafood restaurant.
We had a little trouble finding the Quinta as Google maps had it a kilometer off the main road. It is actually set back off the main road and is on a sharp bend in the road making the name in the wall hard to spot.

Room tip: We were very close to the pool area where we also able to enjoy happy hour. Turning on the timer switches lightened the hallways
