...but a country residence. It should have a restaurant (as stated in the reservation) but it doesn't. If you want to have dinner, you can only order it 24h in advance. Worst is that rooms open from the outside if unlocked, so if you are used to any hotel, which a door can only be opened from the outside with a key, think again - someone might come in at any time...

Room tip: Suite is spacious, but does not have an ocean view, as do the room upstairs.

This is a stunning house with lovely views out to sea from the front terrace. It was beautifully kept with a high standard of service. The infinity pool was a good size and a welcome relief on hot days. The bedrooms were comfortable and nicely finished. We enjoyed retreating to one of the very comfortable lounges to read or use the wifi. The grounds were large and we can recommend exploring the walks available. The gym under the pool was well equipped but did not open until 10.00 hrs. Our party would have used this if it had been open ealier e.g. 08.00hrs. Breakfast was in a lovely sheltered courtyard and there was a good choice available given the small number of rooms. Complimentary tea and coffee were available all day but we only discovered this towards the end of our stay. We also did not realise there were 'bar' meals available. An honesty bar was available for guests with beer and wine on request. It would have been nice to have a little more information on these facilities on arrival or clearer information in the room - these are real plus points for guests. Dinner has to be booked 24 hours in advance but we did not try this. In the local village, Sao Mateus, there is a good fish restaurant Beria Mar with nice views over the harbour. This is a 20 minute walk along the coast road. It was a pleasant walk but there was no pavement in some places. We also used taxis booked by the Quinta to go into Angra de Heroisma in the evenings (about 6 Euros each way). Taxis home were available beside the hotel in the main square - we only had to wait once. We found the recommended Beira Mar restaurant in Angra ( not relation to the Sao Mateus restaurant) overpriced with poor service. We can recommend Marecellino's Steak house in Angra which serves the best fish we had and is very reasonably priced but arrive before 20.00hrs to ensure good service.

The location is great. We stayed there to visit the island on our 10 day trip through the Azores. Great place, wonderful decorated. It's a mansion, and we stayed there by ourselves. Perfect price value! Even if the location is close to the main road, it is quiet, and you look straight onto the ocean

This is a wonderful place to stay with everything you need. Clean, well kept, excellent. We would not consider staying anywhere else on the island. The Manor House is beautiful. You will be made to feel welcome. Parking is available.

The manor house itself is beautifully restored and furnished. The individual bedrooms (11 of them) are comfortable. There is a gorgeous chapel attached to the house (that includes a 2-story suite in the back) and a separate guest house best for a family. The houses have views of the ocean out the front and there are gardens/orchards and forest in the back. The owners are very accomodating and knowledgeable about local restaurants, sights and history.

Couple items of note: The owners speak english passably but not fluently so everyone needs to be patient. The hallways are dark and some sitting areas lack lighting for reading. The bedrooms do not have ocean views...but what can you see at night anyway?!
