the complex is huge and there is not enough staff. Reception small and under staffed. we arrived at 11am and stood in a long queue due to only 2 members of staff on, when we finally got to the desk we were told that we could not check into 5pm and that we could leave our bags in the luggage room and get changed if we wanted to in the reception toilet. We were given our all inclusive wrist band and promptly told we could not use it until 5pm. when we were finally allowed to check in we were told what room we were in, we had to ask how to get there and then told wait outside and someone will take you. after a 15 min wait we asked a member of staff that was stood there for him just to point and say down there, we explained what we were told in reception and he reluctantly called someone over who took us. thank god he did the place is like a maze we had to get lift to 5th floor walk along the outside to the next block to the lift then go back down to 4th floor. They really could do with giving you a map of the complex when you check in.
We were all inclusive but ended eating out every night, if you loved school dinners then you will be fine. They have themed nights if you do not like the themed night the only other option is salad.
The rule No reserving sunbeds that is plastered in reception, well they wasted time even putting that up, from our balcony which over looked the pool we watched people go down and put their towels on at 7am in morning then not return until 10am, not once was these removed by the pool man. there are limited umbrellas around the pool and the some of the sunbeds could do with replacing.
On a positive note most of the staff were really friendly with a couple of exception.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for giving us your detailed feedback on Trip Advisor .

I regret that you left dissatisfied with some aspects of our service. It is our endeavour to ensure that every guest leaves as an ambassador of our hotel. In your case, we clearly failed to do so and for that please do accept my sincere apologies.

I have noted each of your comments and will work on the same to ensure they are not repeated again and we apologise for the inconvenience caused .

I appreciate your specific and constructive feedback as such interactions help us identify areas of opportunity for improvement and also give us further insight into our guests’ expectations, so that we can better exceed them in future.

The standard check in and checkout time of the hotel is 1700hrs and 1000hrs, however we always ensure guests are given the opportunity to check in on arrival and use the facilities of the hotel. The rooms are given to guests as soon as they are ready to guests who have arrived earlier irrespective of standard check in time.

We hope you will not allow this experience to forever mar your perception of our hotel and will allow us another opportunity to prove our commitment to exceeding your expectations.

Just home from 10 days at this hotel! I was very worried when seen some reviews. But overall it was ok. The best things about the hotel is the pool is great, 5 minute walk to the strip and right beside the beach. The check in itself is very slow! We arrived at 1pm at the hotel and couldn't check in till 5pm. Be prepared for it. Yes we booked a basic room. It was clean and was one of the newer rooms. Everything was fine bar the bed, It was so uncomfortable. All the rooms should have air con too not just a fan. Are room got awful warm at times. Had food in the restraunt one night and it was poor. So overall I feel this hotel has so much more potential with more staff on the front reception, comfier beds and nicer food it would be very good.

After reading all the previous reviews i was really not looking forward to or stay but i can honestly say that our experience was a good one. I emailed the hotel before arrival to ask if i could be near the pool and other amenities due to hurting my knee recently and they must have took upon my request as we were above the pool and near the main breakfast restaurant :-)

The room was large and clean, balcony was a little grotty leaking pipe but nothing major. The breakfast wasn't amazing but for such a big hotel they didn't run out of anything and for our needs it was fine.

One thing i will say is that they don't clean your room daily, it was every other day and i think that needs to change.

For the price we paid ( good deal) we liked the hotel, i wouldn't rush back but the location is definitely a perk and the staff were all friendly. I think we were lucky with where are room was placed as i think it would have been a different experience had we been in another block.

I was worried about this hotel with the mixed reviews so let me tell you a few things which will help you prepare, we were self catering so i can not comment on the all inclusive... Firstly the hotel is lovely, the grounds are lovely and the location is great. The hotel is dated but they are constantly maintaining and trying to improve. My advice would be to go there with a simplistic mind, dont expect too much and you will not go wrong. follow the below and you will be prepared
1. On arrival you will probably not be allowed to check in until 16:00 or 17:00 hrs, this appears to be the norm throughout Portugal not just this hotel, so... pack your trunks and towel either at the top of your case or hand luggage and be prepared to go swimming etc until that time. We were lucky and could check in but we were there in low season, however, we did have our trunks ready just in case.. The reception is slow (VERY) so there are often long queues, be prepared for this at check in and also try not to go back to reception if you can help it, we had a blocked sink that really smelt but refused to go back to reception to try and get this fixed, we decided it would be less hassle to put up with it...
2. The hotel is massive and is quite a maze, my advice would be to either use the porter as we did to take you to your room OR... leave most of the family with the cases, go and find the room without lugging the cases then come back. I am good with directions and even with the porter it was difficult to find the room
3. Our room was not cleaned at all during our entrie stay , this means no clean sheets, no clean towels and no toilet paper... SO.... i am telling you now, pack toilet paper or do as we did and buy a packet from the local supermarket (you will need to) . we also had to take some clean towels from the maids trolley on day 5 as ours were getting pretty grubby (this is what i mean about being simplistic....)
4. The area is hilly, very hilly, i am very active and it was tough going, also the pavements are cobbled not smooth, if you plan to walk anywhere, take good shoes and be prepared for exercise. you can take a taxi which is cheap and can be booked at reception -( if you can get to reception) we walked up to the strip and flagged one down there which seemed less hassle.
5. if you can - upgrade to a deluxe room with air conditioning, also ask for one with wifi !! At check in i decided to upgrade the boys room and i am glad i did, the air conditioning was a god send, however there was no wifi (there was in our room) and even though it was supposed to be deluxe, it was very basic and i would of hated to see one of the non-deluxe rooms.
If you prepare and follow these tips you should be ok as the hotel really is lovely , right on the beach, the new pool area is complete and is such a lovely area. The air con worked ok but i have to agree the beds we had in our room were almost like camp beds but after a few wines and a day in the sun we seemed to cope...
One more mention is that there are no internal corridors and all the main walkways are on the outside of the hotel, this means that everyone walks past your balcony if you are on a main throughput , this felt really weird on day one, but we seemed to get used to it and people seemed to respect that you were sat there and ignored you.
OK so some local tips
Supermarket - Go down to the beach and turn right staying on the pedestrian walkway, go past the bars to a roundabout and turn right up the hill, just on the the left is a bar called BJ's with a little shopping complex, at the end of the shops is a supermarket, open at 08:00 Hrs. You can also go straight out of the hotel reception, down the road opposite , turn left down the hill, then it will be on your right. There is a bigger supermarket but it is a bit further away, come out of hotel reception, take the road immediately right and up the hill, you will hit the main road, turn right, go to the roundabout turn left and the supermarket is on the left.
Food, Bank Steakhouse in the old town was superb , as was urban pizza , Wild and Co at the end of the strip was lovely also. i have heard the sizzling stone is good next to wild and co, apparently the cook your steak on a hot stone on your table, we did not try it but it was recommended to us. In fact most of the restaurants seem to do the hot stone cooking anyhow if you wanted to try it.
The strip was ok and did not seem as vulgar as other main strips but we found old town was wonderful, it was very very busy but still had a lovely vibe. There are great places to eat , drink and shop in the old town but have a walk round and find some of the local great restaurants on the sea front.
The beach next to the hotel was lovely, rocky and pebbly in places as you enter the sea but the sandy areas were lovely and clean, Sunbeds are 15 Euro for the day - 10 euro after 15:00 hrs and if you go on the yellow sunbeds there is waiter service and free wifi. The restaurant/bar immediately behind the yellow sunbeds was a favourite for breakfast with the boys.
If you go to the beach and turn left there is a quieter area with a few sunbeds and a cafe and then if you follow the walkway there is another restaurant but i can not comment as we did not use them
If you go to the beach and turn right you can walk along the cove, then go up the steps and walk along the rocks, this takes you to another nice secluded cove, if you carry on along the rocks you will eventually come to the main albufeira beach, you can walk along this beach and arrive at the old town, This is quite a walk though so be prepared.
There are water activities on the beach, jet ski, inflatables paragliding etc etc, there was nothing for the younger children , however on albufeira main beach there is an inflatable adventure playground out in the water, we did not use this but asked the attendant and it was 7 euro for an hour
if you go out of reception down the road opposite, then turn right up the hill you will come to a roundabout, this is the start of the strip.
I think i have covered everything , dont be worried about the reviews it is a lovely place, again i can not comment on all inclusive.
Hope this helps.

Room tip: upgrade to deluxe room and ask for a sea view with air conditioning.
