We’ve never been to Elvas and our friends recommended staying there. The hotel they used on a previous trip was sold out. They booked Vila Galé and it was a complete surprise. Mariana checked us in and escorted us to our beautiful room. The property itself is a converted convent but in a modern way. The employees went way beyond their actual duties, from the regular employees to the management staff. We only stayed one night but will return soon and stay for a few days. The town and hotel are worth it. Highly recommend staying here.

The hotel is only recently opened and is in a converted convent in the heart of historic Élvas. The building is stunning. The internal courtyard with the upper terrace is just beautiful as is the magnificent function room which must have been used as a church at some point.

The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring the town with the main square a 5min walk away and the castle a further 5. Élvas is a labyrinth of cobbled streets and alleyways that is a pleasure to walk around and explore.

The facilities in the hotel are great with a lovely outdoor pool with sun loungers all around it. This area gets the sun from early morning to late afternoon. It really is such a relaxing area. There is also an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and small gym as well as a very good spa. Towels are provided for the pool area and are changed daily at the spa reception. There are snacks available to order at the pool along with drinks.

The bar in the hotel is a very nice and relaxing space and not at all dear for a hotel of this quality. We only ate dinner in the hotel on one evening and the food was average to be honest but actually quite reasonable price wise.

We opted to stay in a suite and it was huge with a lounge and a separate bedroom. There are sliding doors that can be closed to separate the two areas. Both areas had TV's and air conditioning. The bathroom/toilet has a sliding door rather than a normal door. No bath but a large walk in shower.

The bed was huge. The mattress is quite firm but we found it very comfortable. It really was a wondeful room with great views over the rooftops and fortifications.

There is an underground parking garage in the hotel and parking is free.

I have to mention the staff who were all excellent. They really couldn't be more helpful or friendly. It really does make a difference when they make a point of stopping to talk to you and ask how your day has been. They are an asset to the hotel.

Breakfast is very good with a selection of hot and cold options, including freshly made crepes which the little ones loved. Lots of fresh fruit, cakes and juices along with some regional items.

There is no doubt that the building itself is the star but the staff certainly make the whole experience a memorable one. Would I recommend this hotel? 100% yes.

This was one of the most enjoyable hotel stays I can remember having and will certainly be back if in the area again.
