Review of Palm Valley Inn
2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Feb 2016
We visited Palm Valley Inn over the weekend of 5 - 7 February 2016. Once you reach the Inn, you feel a bit underwhelmed as you realise the type of area that you are in. Perceptions aside, we proceed to check-in. We were pleasantly surprised with the interior however, looked nothing like the pictures we saw.

The rooms are out-dated and the technology isn't up to scratch either. We were explicitly told not to play any music, which surprised us as we were there for a birthday weekend for one of our friends. We did not find the equipping of the unit particularly helpful. The air-conditioner was not effective in the large space. The dishes were inadequate and utensils in need of replacement. The fridge struggled to cool our drinks which didn't help our perception of the place either.

Coupled with the fact that 2 couples had to share 1 bathroom which did not havea key to lock the door, it didnt bode well.

The bar was a nice touch though, overlooking the pool however not enough pool-loungers for all guests.

All-in-all, the accomodation was not bad if you are looking for the bare essentials. For what we got, I think the place is quite over-priced. We paid R2900 for the weekednd or 4 people.

I suggest looking at other places but if you are only looking for a place to sleep, this is not the place.

Good luck

Room Tip: I don't see the point of this place. Too expensive and not worth the money paid.

The photos are very misleading. This place is in a very unsafe-feeling part of town, with "views" of the back of the corner shops. The building and rooms are in desperate need of maintenance and everything is just shabby. The pool and bar area are best described as seedy. The disgustingly stained couches had simply been covered in ugly throws.

We could possibly have put up with all that, but the deal breaker was the useless air conditioning. The rooms are simply unbearably hot.

Upon trying the Aircon in room 13 and realizing it wouldn't make a dent in the heat we reported it. A staff member came up and fiddled with the remote and claimed I had it set wrong and the room would cool soon. We left to buy groceries, leaving it on for the hour we were gone and came back to a room no cooler. We asked for a different room, and I was taken to room 8. The air conditioning was no better there. We decided to go elsewhere, and despite having barely even sat down in the room we were only refunded half of our rate. We ended up at Three Oaks. Double the price so we decided to only stay one night, but far nicer. Hartebeespoort, thanks to Palm Valley Inn we decided to get through the activities we've booked and paid for, and head home a day early.

    Reviewed 17 December 2015

We booked a family weekend away in December at Palm Valley Inn. On arrival we were quite happy with our choice. Nice large apartment. The problem started the first afternoon when the kids wanted to go and have a swim. The Sundowner Bar next to the pool were filled with intoxicated revellers which we quickly figured came off the street to drink there. We saw this with our own eyes as the access gate is situated right next to the pool so we saw how the security guard allowed external visitors in off the street to come and drink at the bar. This was in direct violation of the establishment's own rules which stipulates that 'no day visitors' are allowed. I complained to the manager who promised to have them removed which he promptly did. So we went down to the pool with the kids and had about 10 minutes of peace and quiet before the people off the street started filling up the bar area again. This happened every afternoon of our four-day stay. The long and short of it is that this makes the environment not only unsafe but also very unfriendly to women and children. If you are looking for a safe, relaxing family getaway look elsewhere.

All comments are aimed at room 8. Initially I was impressed with the lodging, clean and tidy. However, the couchs were dirty, and merely covered with checked material throw. Crockery was chipped. Quoted price was R1350,00 but once I queried having paid only R1800,00/weekend on my previous visit, the price dropped to R900,00!

My experience with the staff was really good. Value for money is ok. I was, however, disappointed with the barbeque facilities. There was no proper utensils and the outside chairs are uncomfortable to say the least.
