“The perfect place to stay in the perfect place to be!”
Reviewed 21 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

The Red House has everything you need for a family with older children (our children are 18, 16 and 9) although, as another reviewer has mentioned, the stairs up to the master bedroom are rather tricky to navigate after a Belgian beer or two! This house is perfectly located, in a quiet road, yet is only 10-15 minutes walk from the Markt, Belfry and many other attractions. We made good use of the bikes provided at the house as well as the secure garage just around the corner. It was so nice to arrive, park the car in the garage and leave it there for a week without the need to use it, as everything is on your doorstep. The house is clean, comfortable and very 'homely' (with the added bonus that our 'local' is only 3 minutes walk away - the oldest pub in Bruges!). Looking forward to returning in the summer!

“Could not find any downsides to The Red House!”
Reviewed 31 March 2013 for a stay in March 2013

My husband and 22yr old daughter spent 5 days at The Red House and the whole experience was a joy.
The owner Richard lives in the UK so the booking experience and paying of the deposit was very straightforward. No language barrier to worry about there!
I can only echo previous holiday makers experiences of the property as I cannot find anything negative to say, unless the lack of a microwave is a bad thing? It was modern, warm and cosy, extremely well equipped, clean and had an abundance of tourist brochures and advice from other travellers as to where/what to see.
Was apprehensive at the description of the monks staircase to the top floor however for my daughter, the steps were fine provided you sorted out which foot to put on the first step. This might be the only drawback for the more mature, less athletic visitor, especially if you need to make a few trips to the bathroom on the first floor in the night! However providing you do not mind sleeping in twin beds, put the youngsters up the top!
The property is within a 10-15 minute stroll of the Markt and a 20 minute bus ride to the station. Closest bus stop on Langerei (Goulden Handstraat stop) , approx 6 stops from the station.(bus no 4 or 14 towards Koolkerk/Sint Josef.)
Property situated in a quiet residential area in St Anna district of the city, walking distance to the windmills, the oldest pub in Bruges, a Carrefour supermarket and of course the canals! We did not allow the melodious chimes of the bells at 7am each morning spoil the holiday.
All in all we would recommend this property 110% and Bruges as a city is clean and welcoming. Even made use of the free wifi in the Markt!
The locals were only too willing to help, spoke incredible English and French/German/Dutch/Spanish etc! We never once felt ill at ease.
Desperately want to go back again !

“Our theory was right!”

We have stayed at The Red House a few times now and always go back when en route to France or Holland, although I have to stress this is not just merely an en route house but a special part of our holiday that the girls always ask for as we know our holiday has begun in a beautiful fairytale city.
The house is very well equipped, always warm and cosy and just makes you feel at home and stress free. I love the cobble stone street the house sits in, the fact that there is a windmill at the end of the road and a real feel of being in a very arty trendy area but family friendly.
We have also been reassured with the fact of having 3 young children that it is only a 5 minute walk from the centre as anyone with children will know this can add dimensions of uncertainty and anything can happen at any time to change your plans.
So on the way up to Holland we stayed at the Red House as our youngest is turning 6 and it was her birthday wish to stay there and also to be able to go to the Chocolate museum.... but our theory was put to the test as she was suddenly taken ill when we had only just arrived and had ventured into the city square, being such a small distance away my husband took her home to watch DVDs provided and snuggle down whilst I walked round with the older two. I don't think I would of felt comfortble doing that in other cities.
The owner Richard just can't do enough for you, email correspondence, information and any help needed.
We will be back!

Located right in the centre of town, perfect for a weekend break. The kitchen and bathroom had everything we needed. Booking was straightforward. Would definitely recommend.
