Myself and my wife stayed here with our 2 month old son as our final stop during our honeymoon road trip. We were so happy that we did! Let me talk you through the key points -

Location

The hotel is situated a 1 minute walk away from the old centre of Ghent and right opposite Gravensteen (castle) hence the hotels name. We found it very easy waking into the town centre and we had a 2 month old in a buggy so this hotel was ideal. There are a number of restaurants nearby and if it is a nice day/ evening I reckoned a stroll around this beautiful town.

The room

Our room was in the main building directly above reception and had a phenomenal view of the castle. The room was beautiful, spacious and extremely clean. The toilet was separate to the bathroom (which I like) and the shower was very very good. The hotel even supplied the essentials such as shampoo etc. They even supplied a crib for our baby without us having to ask..the sort of attention to detail that makes you return again and against as a customer.

The staff

All of the staff in this hotel are excellent. They all go out of their way to help you and ensure that you have a care free stay. We were given recommendations for food which included a restaurant nearby (De witte leeuw) which turned out to be our favourite meal of the trip. Amazing staff with exceptional people skills.

Parking

There is a car park attached to the hotel which is ideal if you are driving as Ghent isn’t the easiest place to find parking. Spaces are tight here but that’s the norm in an older town and we were just happy with the ease of parking on site. I can’t remember what was charged but can tell you that it was minimal.

Food

We didn’t eat at the hotel as we like to get dinner and breakfast out when we are on vacation but judging by the standards that were set with every other aspect of the hotel I’m sure it is great.

Summary

If you are staying in Ghent for leisure or business, alone or as a family, for one night or a week then I would highly recommend this hotel. Everything about our stay here was perfect and no doubt it would be exactly the same for you. If you are considering this hotel then just hit the book button, you won’t regret it!

The reception is up a flight of stairs and has a lovely chandelier .
Our room was in the annex, we had two beds, both comfortable, a lovely bathroom the furniture is a bit tired, everything is clean.
A mini bar is in the room plus tea and coffee making facilities, not overly generous with the tea and coffee.
Air conditioning was quite and efficient, we needed this as on our first night it was hot and muggy so I got bitten by mosquitoes , there is a screen on one of the windows.
Breakfast room is on the first floor of the annex, fruit, yoghurt, tea , coffee, juices, cereals bread, jams, danishes, cold meat, cheeses and some hot food were all available.
Ideally situated for all the attractions, close to tram stops, shops, restaurants and museums and surprisingly quite.
Would recommend as a good basic hotel and would visit again

Arrived at the hotel and luckily some parking spaces left. Very friendly reception staff, our rooms were not in the main hotel but in the annexe to the rear of the hotel in the same block as the breakfast room. Quite a large room and well apointed with a bar but not the customary bottle of drink water .. water was in the mini bar and had to be paid for. Room was clean, and no real noise from the street outside. Had some trouble getting the TV to work. Reception told me to give it a shake, but in fact I found that the cable at the rear was unplugged. Hair dryer didnt work and on reporting it to reception they told us they were expecting replacements sometime.

Breakfast was fine, mainly a selection of breads, fruit and cereals, although it was a little cramped at some of the tables with people trying to squeeze past

After eating out on day one, went back to the hotel to have a drink at the bar at just before 10 pm and it was closed. Closed day two, didnt bother day three. There are plenty of bars nearby, just a shame the hotel one isnt open for a night cap

All in all an good hotel, very close to the main centre, good sized clean rooms

Room Tip: Annexe rooms either look out onto one of the main streetrs or onto the hotel garden car park

A nice hotel, clean and modern. It's location was a winner for us as we liked walking past the castle every day and being able to get a variety of different photos at different times of the day. The hotel is very easy to get to, the tram number 1 will get you to the city from the train station and stops very near to the hotel. The breakfast was good albeit a bit limited, and the staff were always friendly and helpful.
