A wonderful place filled with charm and character. Very intimate, warm and comfortable. The staff was excellent and cooked up great breakfasts and were available to cook meals anytime (thanks Michael!). We were a family of 4 with children ages 14 and 12 and stayed in suite 5 with a loft for the kids. Highly recommended and we will be back!

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful days at this very welcoming hotel. It was beyond expectations. We were met at the airport by Gaston, who was not only the taxi driver but the chef, dish washer, waiter and hotel owner. His staff, Mike - a great host and brother in law, Petra - a great chef and sister in law, and Ties- an amazing waiter, all did their respective jobs impeccably well. Everyone was warm, friendly, welcoming and were there to take care of any needs we had. In addition, the room had an amazing view of the canal and was clean, comfortable and cozy. We slept well.

On our last night there Gaston prepared a delicious, gourmet multi-course dinner and then took us to the airport at 6 am the next morning. Doesn't get any better than that!

We stayed two wonderful nights at this B&B - the view of the canals was stunning, the room was nicely furnished and service was top notch!

1) Location - right on the canal with lovely view of the canals, boats and bridges. The view was even more stunning during twilight with street & boat lights lit up. Just a short walk cross the canal bridge to get to the old part of Leyden and shopping area including supermarkets and restaurants.

2) Check-in - was very smooth. Got greeted by friendly Gatson who got a council parking ticket for the car and assisted with luggage to the room and went over facilities etc. Gatson was extremely helpful and let us use his laptop with secure internet to book for air tickets and make credit card payments

3) Room - it's a 400 year old building and yet the room was very comfortable and wifi had strong signal. The room was spacious and nicely furnished. It's a big plus to have a lift in such an old building especially with two large suitcases for 6 weeks traveling. Tea and coffee making facility was also available in the room. Bed was very comfortable.

4) Bathroom - reasonable size and new, the shower was very functional.

5) Parking - available on the street & reasonable daily rate. Managed to get a spot just right opposite the B&B.

6) Breakfast- extra E8 pp for either a la carte or buffet. My partner said it was nice especially the oat porridge.

Service was outstanding. They really tried their best to make sure guests have a pleasant stay. I broke a glass felt really bad and apologised to Gaston but he was fine about the whole thing. He said "no worries these things happened" and asked housekeeper to vacuum it. We actually enjoyed our time in Leyden more than Amsterdam!

My husband and I stayed at this lovely boutique hotel for four nights while exploring Leiden. Our room was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and inviting, and although it was at the front of the building, street noise was not a problem. We looked out at a canal and a nearby mall street that led to the center of town, making it easy to find our way there and back. A quiet and reliable elevator was available next door to our room. Service at the hotel was exceptional, with friendly and knowledgeable staff, and breakfasts were varied and delicious, well worth the extra cost. We would be delighted to stay there again.

One caution: bicycles have the right-of-way in Leiden, and they are ubiquitous. They come fast, from both directions, so pedestrians need to use special care when venturing across streets. Still, it's a charming city and well worth visiting.

But none has made me feel more at home. The service, food and rooms in this family run boutique hotel are exceptional. I was there for a week with my wife while working in Leiden. Our room was modern and comfortable, yet restored to whisk you back in time. A picture window on the Holland of imagination, antique boats in the canal, cobblestone streets and windmills in the distance. Smiles awaiting you when you return. I'll always remember my stay at de Baronnes. You will too.
