I also booked Ibis Amsterdam Centre next to the Centraal Station for my stay but eventually decided on this hotel and it was a great choice. Location is good, not direct on Dam Square or too near to the Centraal Station but within reasonable walking distance. If you are coming from the Centraal Station and lugging big luggages, I would advise to call Uber or hail a cab, which would cost about 7 to 10 euros. There is a large Albert Hejin supermarket, a Hema store and some cafes about 5 mins walk away.
The room and amenities were good too, as long as you don't intend to stay in all day. We only wished that they could provide a mini fridge, extra dustbin, tissue paper and small electric kettle but knew in advance that there aren't and brought our own for the last 2 items. Air conditioning takes a while to cool the room but it worked fine throughout our stay.
Breakfast has a decent spread and definitely fuels one up enough to start the day off well. The hotel staff are also friendly and welcoming. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Ibis Amsterdam Centre Stopera and would recommend it to other travellers.

My husband, sister and her partner stayed at the Ibis hotel for one night during a 48-hour trip to Amsterdam. It was my first time in the city and I wanted to be close enough to the centre - i.e. walking distance, but not in the thick of it and not with a huge price tag! We weren’t fussed about luxury, so this 3-star hotel seemed like a good choice! We booked a few before and upgraded for the breakfast. Online check in was available which made the arrival and check in smooth. The reception staff seemed helpful and offered us a map and some directions for walking to the city centre. It was a 10-15 walk and a pleasant one!
The facilities are what you would expect from a 3-star hotel, the bar area was comfortable, and staff were friendly. I was able to log onto the free WI FI but my husband and sister couldn’t seem to get it to work.
Our room was on the ground floor with a canal view which was nice. The bathroom pod could benefit from some maintenance and love and the walls were thin (I could hear the loo flushing next door!) but overall is was comfortable and the bed was of decent quality.
We ate at the hotel and the food was ok, it wasn’t that great in terms of value for money, but the staff were friendly and even put the football on the screen for us as it was quiet!
Breakfast was decent, a good selection of fruit, cereals, cakes and bread and scrambled eggs were good.
Overall, I think it was good value for money and we would consider staying again.

Room Tip: Some rooms on the ground floor have nice canal views

The only problem we faced is the delay in checking in since the room was not ready at the check in time of 2 pm. we were made to wait for around 60 minutes. Otherwise stay was nice. Not close to the metro or tram station.

We stayed here for two nights during our first trip to Amsterdam. The “front desk” is like a communal table- seems a little chaotic- but was ok. Our room was super cute and included an extra bed for our daughter. They’re a little stingy when it comes to bathroom amenities: only a few drops of shower gel remained, no tissues, and after they changed our linens they only left 2 towels for our family of three. But it’s very clean and quiet and our breakfasts were terrific. We also enjoyed watching the football in the lounge. Very nice hotel!

We really value your feedback as this helps us to improve. We apologize for the shower gel not being changed as well as not getting new towels for your whole family. This is not the way we normally operate and we will look into the matter.

With Ibis part of the Accor group and as a past Novotel guest, I thought I'd give this property a try, partly because of the connection to a chain I had been more than happy to return to and partly because of the price. I found among the consequences of using a lower level Accor hotel compared to Novotels was the indifferent attitude from the front desk staff. Not much of a welcome, just the perfunctory handing over of the room card without much heart or soul put into it. A request for an additional pillow was not met after 4 hours and my repeat appeal was handled without an apology but eventually resulted in the pillow's delivery. The approach to the elevator was via a cold, uninviting, winding corridor and on reaching our floor we found the carpet badly stained with spills that remained throughout our 3 night stay. The room itself was minimalist, but did boast a power cube with USB charging outlets as well as 230VAC. The saving grace was the room location on the canal side with interesting views. Also interesting was that for a few seconds after a cruise boat passed by, the building gently shook for a few seconds as the wake met the canal bank. I will stick with the Novotel product based on this experiment.

Room Tip: A canal-side room will give you some interesting views.

Dear Norman,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I am so sorry for your experiences. This is absolutely not the way we want our guests to feel. It is our mission to make all our guests feel most welcome and special in any way we can and I am really sorry you did not feel this way. We are happy you enjoyed the view of our rooms on the canals. We are pleased you still stay in the ACCOR hotels group.

We appreciate you sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.

With warm regards,
Susanne
