The museum was interesting and had plenty of exhibits to look at. There was something for all ages to enjoy. Our son especially enjoyed the ships but he also like looking at the models. Was not crowded and we spent 5 hours there to see all of it.

When traveling with kids (12 and 13) we're always on the lookout for things that will peak their interest, and the Maritime Museum did not disappoint. The kids LOVED the ship and enjoyed reading every sign they could find featuring the little mascot rat. (Be sure not to miss him in the captain's quarters - he tells the kids a secret clue to getting a little present at the museum store.) The level of the ship that is the hold is essentially a climbing scape - the kids are allowed to climb up on the boxes are try the different pulleys to lift the 80 kg containers.

The displays in the building are quite impressive and appear to be recently redone. All the signs were in Dutch as well as English, and the video displays all had English subtitles. We especially enjoyed the area about the Netherlands' Golden Age.

Both kids and adults alive will enjoy a stop here. Plus, if you walk over from NEMO Science center, you can see one of Amsterdam's famous windmills off in the distance.

We rode our bikes from the Plimpton hotel (bikes were for hotel guests) to this museum. The museum was interesting as it gave you a perspective of traveling by sea during the early days of exploration. Well worth visiting.

I pre booked online through Tours And Tickets to avoid the queues only to find that it was very quiet. Overall the museum was interesting and well presented with something for everyone. I found the replica warship a little disappointing expecting low head room below decks only to find plenty of space and wondered how authentic the ship was.
