This train station is vast with both modern and old parts. In the old part, there are two restaurants with incredible mosaics and gorgeous wood paneling. One is the Starbucks. It has to be the fanciest Starbucks in the world!!! Also there are storage lockers there that you can leave your luggage in so that you can tour the city. They are cheaper than most luggage storage places and easily accessible with a train ticket, even though you have already traveled- the ticket will give you access to the storage area.

Yes the building is old but the infrastructure is modern and well organised like most of the Dutch rail network. There are plenty of ticket machines which operate in several languages and are self explanatory to use. It’s a good idea to use a credit card rather can cash which can be fiddly to feed into the machines. The subway and tram system can be easily accessed from outside.

The facade of the central station is picture-worthy. Inside the station, there are quite a number of places to eat and shop. Lockers are also available if you want to go around Amsterdam without having to bring your bags or luggage along. There are also station personnel around who can help you if you have questions on getting around Amsterdam or what transportation to take. Be sure to get your GVB tickets here (7.50 euros) for a 24 hour unlimited bus / tram / metro ride.

I got the pass offered for 2 or 3 day stay. There may be a pass for a longer stay. My inquiries only went as far as my stay was concerned. The pass is amazing as you can travel via bus, tram and I believe ferry. We paid $40 for our passes (2 people). It was worth it. If I ever come to Amsterdam again. I would totally get this pass.
