“An Oasis, far from the Madding Crowd”

Arriving in Amsterdam at 6am, pouring rain & freezing cold we made our way
to Linnaeussuite, whilst we knew we were early for a check in, Lidy kindly stored
our bags, and offered us coffee. Whilst initially we thought it a bit off the beaten track,
15 minutes by tram to the city, it was such a welcome reprieve to come home to after many
hectic days with the crowds. Our apartment was so comfortable & Lidy went out of her
way to make us welcome. The area where we were had beautiful parks/gardens & restaurants, lovely little bars and a fabulous wine shop We loved it & shall return in
the near future. The balcony & roof terrace were an added bonus, and the fact that you
could prepare a simple meal if you didn't want to go out was wonderful, as a few
nights we were happy to stay in and sip a wine or two on the balcony. Would highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to Amsterdam, who didn't want to stay
in a hotel.

“A very special place to stay.”

My husband and I are just back from a wonderful weekend in Amsterdam where we stayed at Lidy Knol's beautiful apartment, Linnaeussuite. For the price of a two star hotel we had a three roomed apartment fitted out to five star standards, or more. Everything, from the chic minimalist decor, the crisp bed linen, the gorgeous bathroom and the welcoming bottle of Prosecco in the fridge, was more like a high end hotel than a rental. Add to this the stunning private roof garden where we breakfasted to the sound of the bells and the choir of the local church, and you have a really special place to stay.

Lidy couldn't have been a more thoughtful or generous hostess. Nothing was too much trouble - after we made an impulsive purchase at a local antique store, she spent at least an hour online and on the phone trying to ensure that airport security would allow us to bring our venetian mirror on the plane. And when it became clear that we would not be allowed to take it home, she offered to return it to the shop and send on the money refunded.

The apartment is a two mintue walk from the tram, which has you in the city centre in ten or fifteen minutes. It is a pretty and peaceful area, mainly residential and next to a park. There are lovely local coffee shops and restaurants only minutes away, an authentic taste of Amsterdam, and a great change from the usual tourist fodder.( Highly recommended is the restaurant 'La Vallade', a gem of a place on the local canal).

Yes, the apartment on the third floor and the stairs are steep and numerous - but this is the case with a lot of accomodation in Amsterdam and shouldn't put anyone off. We just loved having our own little tranquil haven to return to after long days of sightseeing and shopping. It definitely made our trip, and we can't wait to go back.
