Description: In 2016, quite a number of people have got to know chef, world traveller and jazz musician Numa Muller (Arles; 1985). Through various pop-ups on different locations in Amsterdam, Numa introduced his interpretation of the néo-bistro cuisine. This popular cuisine, famous in Paris and renowned for its recognizable dishes, prepared with new flavours and a touch of je ne sais quoi, is now also available in the Dutch capital. In a restaurant that goes by the name Arles. Enchanté. A combination of the love for Amsterdam, the challenge, and the dynamics of a young kitchen team, brought Numa from the Provence to Amsterdam. The former restaurant À la Ferme has changed completely – and the same counts for the menu. Numa cooks, together with two French cooks who have followed him from the South of France, what ,,the market’’ has to offer. Literally. As a result of his many visits to Amsterdam, the closely located Albert Cuyp market forms no secrets anymore to Numa and also at different places in and around town, the young chef knows where to find the best products available. What does that mean in practice? One has the possibility to choose from original-modern-creative starters, main courses and desserts for néo-bistro prices: for 36 Euro one can already choose three courses. The host of Arles is Laurence Reintjens (Tilburg; 1990), who used to work at Restaurant La River and Bridges, after which he decided to continue his career in a more accessible type of restaurant. Laurence is part of the new generation of hosts who know what the value of sincere hospitality and knowledge about wine means to create a good restaurant experience. His wine menu includes both traditional as well vin nature wines. Restaurant Arles has four beautiful spaces: the salon, the cave, the serre – and for when the weather allows it – a beautiful patio. Each area has its own character and intimacy. The materials used in Arles’ design are warm and modern. An important element in the ambiance forms the attractive art collection with art and photography, inspired by the city of Arles.

Authentic French restaurant. Price / quality is good considering that the a French home away from France.
The menu is a slight variation of a typical French menu, for the better.
Bread and wine are excellent.

Chose to eat here on the basis of a Trip Advisor search during a trip to Amsterdam. This restaurant did not disappoint. The food was lovely, tasty and hot and the short wait to be served initially was soon made up for by the meal. I would definitely eat here again. I would note that I visited with my Sister and could not say how child friendly this restaurant would be should you want to visit with children tagging along.

Although the restaurant was busy, we had a prompt and friendly greeting. We waited a moment for a table with slightly more space to be cleared and sat down. Service was extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed amazing starters and particularly enjoyed the black mushrooms with poached egg and Parmesan crumbs but the butternut squash soup was delicious too. The main course of cod and dessert of deconstructed apple crumble with a lemony custard were also fabulous. Altogether a memorable dining experience; not stuffy and very good value. Thank you, I hope to return.

We hadn’t booked a table, but were fortunate to acquire a table in the garden area at the rear of the restaurant.
It was very comfortable, light and airy.
There was an excellent menu, offering really good value, with welcoming staff providing good advice on the various dishes.
The food was superb - freshly cooked and presented. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere about it too.
All in all, Arles is an excellent restaurant and I’d be more than happy to return at any time.
